RARE PHOTO! Painter Abraham Rattner and Henry Miller in a Paris cafe in the 1930s
The Leepa-Rattner Museum of Artin Tarpon Springs, Florida recently held an exhibition of works by figurative expressionist painter Abraham Rattner and Henry. The exhibition, entitled "Henry & Abe Finding America," explored the duo's 1940 road trip to ‘rediscover’ America after years as expatriates in Paris, France.

Our very own Magnus Toren attended and spoke.  Anyway, it isn't very often you see a photo of Henry from the 30s, but here is is with Abe. Reproduction courtesy the Brooklyn Eagle via the Leppa-Rattner Museum of Art and Guild Hall Museum, East Hampton, NY.
FOTL (FRIEND OF THE LIBRARY): STACIE WILLOUGHBY, CONJURER OF TALL TALES!
Ever wonder, "Man, the design for the Library's Where Nothing Happens poster is amazing." So have we.
But what about the artist behind the poster — and the countless other iconic posters for HML events throughout the years?  Well, that would be the Oakland-based FOTL, Stacie Willoughby.
If a picture is worth a thousand words. Dozens of mind-blowing posters and pieces of art say even more. Check out her work here!
AND IN THIS INSTALLMENT OF "FRIENDS OF HENRY..." EMIL SCHNELLOCK
Henry's oldest and closest friend was his Brooklyn boyhood chum Emil Schnellock, a painter who became an art instructor at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA.
It was Schnellock who gave Miller ten dollars at the moment of his departure for France. It was Schnellock to whom Miller wrote long letters from Paris (letters that we have in our archive!*) And it was Schnellock to whom Miller wrote about watercolor painting and the meaning of living one’s life as an artist.
Check out this extensive Emil Schnellock biography courtesy of our friends at the Cosmodemonic Telegraph Company!

*Stay tuned for announcements soon regarding exhibits at our new location. This summer we will exhibit some of our rare materials from our Emil Schnellock Archives!
