October is Filipino American History Month (FAHM). In 1992, Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) promoted this month to build understanding, education, enlightenment, appreciation and enrichment of the history and culture of Filipino Americans in the United States.

Italian-American Heritage and Culture Month is celebrated by proclamation of the President and Congress in the United States to honor the achievements and contributions of Italian immigrants and their descendants living in the United States, particularly in the arts, science, and culture.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which was declared by the United States Congress in 1988 to raise awareness of the employment needs and contributions of individuals with disabilities. Americans observe this month by recognizing the accomplishments of the people with disabilities and ensuring equal opportunity for all.

O.P.T. - Opioid Prevention Training
On October 21, join SGA and the Dean of Students Office and be prepared to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose. More than 100 people die each day in the U.S. due to opioid overdoses, but you can learn to prevent that through this program. Join us on Saturday, October 21 for a 2-hour hands-on workshop. Participants will learn Bystander Intervention strategies, Rescue Breathing Techniques, and how to administer life-saving Narcan spray. Everyone in attendance will leave the program with a kit that includes Narcan. Attendance is limited so sign up now.

HAZING Screening & Q&A with Byron Hurt
On October 24 at 7 p.m., Filmmaker Byron Hurt takes viewers with him on a journey to explore the culture of hazing. Hurt talks to family members of deceased young people, as well as survivors, to reveal the underbelly of groups that haze. HAZING will take a fascinating look at identity, belonging, groupthink, control, power and dominance, bystander intervention, race and gender, and violence. As a result of his decades-long work as a filmmaker and activist, Hurt is widely recognized as a leading voice in the fields of independent filmmaking and gender violence prevention. October is Global Diversity Awareness Month which pays tribute to the diverse minds and beliefs held by all cultures around the world. Goal 4 of Seton Hall’s Strategic Plan focuses on further cultivating and nurturing a trusting and collaborative Seton Hall community that educates and empowers all its members to advance equity, inclusion and social justice on campus and in the wider world.

- October 18: International Pronouns Day seeks to make respecting, sharing, and educating about personal pronouns commonplace. Each year it is held on the third Wednesday of October.
- October 20: Sikh Holy Day (birth of Guru Granth) Sikh Holy Day is the day Sikhs celebrate Sri Guru Granth Sahib, their spiritual guide.
