Thank you to our Supporters for a great year...
|
but we've got one more ask.
Have you ever had one of those days? Seriously, you’ve done everything right, and still it goes wrong? NALC is having one of those days.
Here’s a little peek behind the current of nonprofit fundraising:
We count on two major campaigns each year to ask for your support through a financial donation to NALC. You’ve been more than generous in the past, and we need these funds to buy books and online licenses, to keep up with technology, and to pay our awesome staff. This is how our neighbors are gaining the literacy skills they need for all the things they want to do in life. You help us do that.
Well, this year, we mailed our appeal in early May with plenty of time before the end of our fiscal year on June 30. Here’s the thing…the postal service is behind. Like, way behind. It’s been more than a month, and still our mailers aren’t all the way out. All the while, time is running out – we have just two weeks left to raise the money we need – nearly $40,000.
I know many of you haven’t received our mailer yet. Trust me – it’s both inspiring and pretty! Could you please help us out through this email and donate now? It will help us keep serving the one in five Nashvillians who needs us this summer. And it feels awesome to know you’re making a difference, which you are.
Thank you again for supporting this important cause. We appreciate you!
Sincerely,
Kim Karesh

NALC is seeking to add part-time, Online Classroom Instructors for English Language Learners. The session runs from August 26th through November 15th. New teachers should plan for up to 10 hours of prep time before their first session of teaching with NALC, which includes training and contacting learners. A teacher’s week will include four hours of instruction, two hours of prep, and one hour of coordination and communication with learners and/or staff, for a total of up to seven hours per week per class. Any additional hours require prior approval from the manager. Occasional meetings may be required. There will be opportunities for additional hours if/when substitute teachers are necessary.

| Naomi and Rachel have been working together for a little over a year. They meet each week at the library to practice English, share recipes, and learn about each other’s cultures.
Naomi heard about NALC through a friend. When asked about her experience as a student at NALC she said, “I really enjoy my classes with my tutor. Even if my speaking is terrible, she listens, tries to understand, and waits for me. When I ask her questions she always tries to give me accurate information and knowledge. She helps me very much. Since starting this class, I have become a little less hesitant to speak English. We sometimes talk about school, education, culture, people, and food in each other's country. It is very fun and educational. I will continue to work hard and hope to be able to speak a lot more.”
