Move-In Logistics

Arrival and Unloading

When you pull up to your student’s residence hall, you will be greeted by First-Year Advisory Counselors (FACs) who will help unload your vehicle. Please label all of your student’s belongings with their name and room number to ensure belongings get to the correct place.

Parking Pass & Accessing East Campus

Your students received a parking pass for Move-In Day earlier this month. Be sure to print this before arriving on campus on August 17th. The pass gives specific times, routes, and entrances to make sure your move-in day experience flows as smoothly as possible. You will need this physical pass in order to access East Campus on the 17th! Be sure to print this before arriving to campus.
Each family is permitted ONE vehicle on East Campus during your student's assigned move-in window. To ensure efficient traffic flow on Move-In Day, please use the entrance indicated on your pass. Once you are on campus, Duke community members will help direct traffic.
If you need a vehicle to return outside of your student's designated time, cars will be able to access East Campus again after 5pm.

Parking After Move-In

After unloading at your student's residence hall, your car must be moved to the Science Drive parking deck on West Campus. Shuttles are available to bring you back to East Campus from the parking deck.
A parking pass is not necessary for the Science Drive deck. This lot should be used during the move-in process if your family has more than one car on campus and while on West Campus during Parent and Family Orientation (August 17-18).

Campus Masking Policies

In response to the Delta variant, both the city of Durham and Duke University require that all individuals wear masks indoors. We ask for your support during move-in and while on campus this week. Visitor policies are listed on the Duke United website
All campus buses also require masking.

 Student Orientation Schedule

The new student orientation schedule is now available on the DukeGuides or Guidebook app. Download either app, search for or click on “Orientation Welcome Week 2021,” and click “download.”

Family Engagement

Parent & Family Orientation

All virtual orientation sessions—recorded webinars and videos—are now posted on the Parent and Family Programs website. Catch up on any missed content!
Parent and Family orientation continues this Tuesday and Wednesday in person. A schedule of events is available online. Physical copies of the schedule will also be available on East Campus on Tuesday.
Convocation will now be held outdoors on Abele Quad (West Campus) to minimize the risk of COVID spread, and all attendees will be required to wear a mask. In the case of rain, the event will be live-streamed for students and families to watch.

Join Duke Parents Advisory Council

We are currently accepting DPAC applications for Class of 2025 Parent Representatives!
The Duke Parents Advisory Council (DPAC) plays an instrumental role within the University by providing feedback, support, and counsel throughout the academic year. DPAC's goals are as follows:
  • Assist the Division of Student Affairs in strategic planning for new and existing initiatives.
  • Represent the larger community of Duke parents regarding policy and program implementation.
  • Provide an outlet for parents of students who want to be involved in the undergraduate Duke experience.
The application can be found here and is due August 23rd. We will be in touch with all applicants by mid-September regarding selections. Thank you again for your interest in DPAC!

COVID-19 Policy Plan

All undergraduate students received an email on Friday with the Undergraduate Student COVID-19 Policy Plan for the upcoming 2021-2022 academic year. All undergraduate students are required to commit to these policies. Commitments will be captured by electronic signature through a link in the email.  Individuals who have not yet completed the electronic signature will continue to receive daily email reminders from this address until the agreement is signed electronically.
