• Members of Broadway musical
SIX’s upcoming Shanghai production held a workshop on campus on Monday. Musical theater performer Li-Tong Hsu joined about 50 students for a choir session singing the song “Six”- a modern retelling of the lives of the six wives of Henry VIII under the guidance of guest choir director Wei Liu. The
workshop was hosted by Clinical Assistant Professor of Music
Gabriel Song and Business and Marketing student Jia Zixuan ’25.
• On November 6, Princeton University Professor Emeritus of East Asian Studies
Chih-p’ing Chou delivered a
talk to a packed audience defending Chinese characters. The lecture, hosted by Chinese Language Program Director
Zou Xin, followed an introduction by Dean of Arts and Sciences
David Atwill. Chou discussed the historical disdain for Chinese characters, once a target for elimination among intellectuals, and argued that they did not hinder China's modernization from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. In the Q&A session, he shared examples of script reforms that influence current views on Chinese characters.
