Let me begin my first message to you as chair of the Department of Mathematics with thanks to Dr. Dorina Mitrea, who led the department incredibly well for six years and thus passed things to me in excellent condition. The 2025–2026 academic year certainly kept us quite busy. We hosted a statewide meeting and an international one, welcomed a distinguished lecturer, awarded a new endowed scholarship for the first time, graduated seven Ph.D. students, and spent much of the year collaborating in wonderful community. What follows is a tour of the year, with links to the fuller stories.

The Baylor University Department of Mathematics recognized Blanca Radillo-Murguia and Rafael Morales as the 2025 recipients of the Lance Littlejohn Scholarship for Graduate Research in Mathematics 

We are proud to announce the new Johns Family Scholarship in Mathematics. This scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding undergraduate pursuing a major in mathematics, or to a student in the University Scholar, Business Fellow, or similar program with a concentration in mathematics. 

The Partial Differential Equations and Spectral Theory Satellite Conference of the International Congress of Mathematicians recently concluded at Baylor University. 

Graduate students Jonathan Feigert and Martha du Preez have been nominated for the Graduate School's 2025–2026 Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award in recognition of their excellence in teaching

With the end of the semester upon us, the Department of Mathematics hosted its annual Spring Luncheon, offering a chance for the department community to pause and connect before final exams began. 

Baylor University hosted the 16th installment of the BLAST conference series from May 18 to May 21, 2026, welcoming more than 60 mathematicians from across the globe for a four-day exchange of cutting-edge research and collaboration.

This spring, we are proud to recognize seven outstanding doctoral students who have completed their PhDs at Baylor University: Blake Allan, Drew Anderson, Hayden Henson, Ellie Matter, Rafael Morales, Blanca Radillo-Murguia, and Pedro Takemura.

The Baylor Math Department came together this spring for its annual Family Picnic at Cameron Park, with faculty, staff, undergraduate and graduate students, and their families enjoying a relaxed afternoon of food and connection.

Baylor University's Department of Mathematics welcomed internationally recognized mathematician Dr. Holly Krieger as the featured speaker for the 15th Baylor Undergraduate Lecture Series in Mathematics, continuing a tradition that began in 2008 of bringing exceptional mathematical thinkers and teachers to campus.

This spring, the Baylor Mathematics Graduate Student Seminar Series brought students together through two events focused on student research and professional development, including guidance on job applications.

The Baylor Math Department recently celebrated Grad Student Appreciation Week 2026, taking time to recognize the dedication and many contributions of its graduate students.

Faculty and students from across Texas, along with other members of the Mathematical Association of America, gathered at Baylor University on March 27–28 for the 105th Annual Meeting of the Texas Section of the MAA, a two-day conference focused on mathematics research, teaching, and professional collaboration.

Hannah Baer, student worker in the Department of Mathematics at Baylor University, has been named a winner of the Student Employee of the Year Award in recognition of the outstanding work, care, and positivity she has brought to the department.

On December 11, the Baylor University Department of Mathematics hosted it's annual luncheon marking the close of the fall semester. Held just days before final exams, the event brought together faculty, staff, students, retirees, and guests in an informal setting

Congratulations to the Department of Mathematics’ Blanca Radillo-Murguía, who has been selected as a recipient of this year’s Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award. 

The Department of Mathematics' Dr. Fritz Gesztesy has been recognized among the top 2% of the world's most-cited researchers in rankings compiled by Stanford University. 

On October 31, 2025, the Department of Mathematics at Baylor University hosted the conference "Fourier Analysis and Partial Differential Equations,'' held in honor of Professor Dorina Mitrea.

As the new academic year begins, we’re pleased to introduce the newest members of our Math Department team. Joining us are Assistant Professor Dr. Son Tu, Postdoctoral Research Fellow Dr. Artur Andrade and Postdoctoral Research Associate Ahsan Ali.
