Ambassador Board Builds Community
In a normal year, the DLSNC Ambassador Board (AB) works to raise awareness about the school in the community, to assist with fundraising—including a summer silent auction, to help recruit Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) partners, and to provide current students and recent alumni with professional skills through avenues like “lunch and learns” and other career exploration discussions.
Just like everything else in the age of COVID, the AB had to retool on the fly to be effective in response to the changing needs of the DLSNC community. Over the last year, the AB has become a key part of helping to collect and assemble food boxes for the DLSNC food pantry. The AB also organized several virtual industry group panel discussions in the spring semester to help augment students' CWSP training curriculum.
Another key objective for the AB is to try and keep DLSNC’s amazing graduates connected to the DLSNC community once they’re no longer on campus, and so this past fall, the AB also assembled and sent care packages to the 2020 graduating class. And that's just the start.
We now have two amazing DLSNC alumni on the AB, and we hope we can continue to grow that number! Throughout this past year, we have been amazed—even more than usual—by the resiliency of DLSNC students, families, faculty, and staff, and continue to be grateful that we have the opportunity to lend a helping hand to this incredible community in whatever ways we can.

Students Learn About Different Professions
Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) partners, Board of Trustees members, Ambassador Board members, and other DLSNC community members have joined forces to provide one more venue to help expose our students to the many career opportunities available to them in the future. In addition to the weekly CWSP partner Meet & Greets, students have enjoyed learning the inside scoop during our Guest Speaker Series. Thus far they have heard from the following sectors: banking, real estate, tech, and public accounts. In the coming weeks, they will hear from entrepreneurs, manufacturing professionals, and other STEAM-related professionals.

Freshman Community Day

23 freshmen participated in Freshman Community Day, part of a continued effort to build community as students are participating in online learning from home. Due to nice weather, small group sizes, and following Covid-19 guidelines, students were able to gather in person on campus. Activities included get-to-know-you games, Family Feud, athletic activities, and a grab-n-go burrito lunch. It was so good to see students in person!

New Fashion Club at DLSNC

"DLSNC now has a fashion club, sponsored by FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising). It's a club that allows students to highlight their creativity and express themselves, teaching members that fashion goes beyond clothes. Members are offered scholarships to FIDM and are invited to attend the 3 Days of Fashion event at FIDM in Los Angeles in the summer.
I enjoy everything about fashion club because I’ve always loved everything about the fashion industry. We’re planning a fashion show that will take place virtually during second semester. However, we would love to have a fashion show once we're back on campus." -- Club Leader, Sandra Padilla Cervantes ‘22

"I joined fashion club because I wanted to step outside my comfort zone. With the pandemic and everything, I wanted a challenge. Fashion club was not something I would have considered to be in my area of expertise. I enjoy it because I am able to see my potential in things I would have thought impossible. Everyone in the club is very nice, and I can tell truly enjoys it. I wanted to be a leader because I like being useful and being helpful. Leadership can look like a lot of different things and I wanted to see how I could use my skills and redefine what leadership looks like in a club that I was planning on spectating from." -- Club Leader Max Pettit ‘21
Progress continues on our new campus. Here, you can see the gym walls rising in the center and the wood framing of the Commons on the left.
You can watch a timelapse video of the construction here.
