Graduation on the Mountain: Cheers to T'23!
On Friday, May 12, the School of Theology held a Commencement Eucharist, conferring degrees on 34 students. The Rev. Gay Clark Jennings, former president of the Episcopal Church’s House of Deputies, delivered the sermon and received an honorary doctorate of divinity. In her advice to graduates, Gay shared 2 Timothy 1:6: “Fan into flame the gift of God that is in you from the laying on of hands.” Noting that the journey of ministry can be difficult, she also quoted General William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army: “The tendency of fire is to go out. Watch the fire on the altar of your heart.” If you missed the service, you can watch a recording at this link. Then, click here to make a gift in honor of a graduate!

Education for Ministry Welcomes New Leadership
Education for Ministry (EfM), the life-changing Christian formation program founded at Sewanee in 1975, has appointed a new Executive Director. Following the retirement of current leader Karen Meridith on June 30, the Rev. Kevin M. Goodman will step into her role. Kevin brings a deep commitment to the program, having served as an EfM mentor and trainer for more than thirty years. Speaking about EfM on Tiger Tuesday in 2021, Kevin shared, “I cannot imagine my life without Education for Ministry as a major part of it . . . This incredible program changes lives by helping us hear the word of God, connect it with our culture and experiences, and then do something to change the world in God’s name.” Learn more about Kevin here.

Meet Mary Catherine!
Starting on June 1, you’ll hear from a new voice at the School of Theology—Mary Catherine Alexander is transitioning from Administrative Assistant for Advancement Special Projects on Sewanee’s undergraduate side to Assistant Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving at the seminary. (You may recognize her as the spouse of the Rev. Murdock Jones, T'20, and former president of Companions in Ministry!) Jesse Bornemann will move in the other direction, leaving the School of Theology to work in development and alumni relations at the college. It’s a short walk between campus office buildings, so neither Mary Catherine nor Jesse is traveling far! You can say hello to Mary Catherine at mcalexan@sewanee.edu.
