Longwood Reimagined Continues |
Things are heating up on our Longwood Reimagined project! This month we moved into place a new, more efficient steam boiler. The boiler, which can produce 20,700 pounds of steam per hour, is part of the system that heats our existing conservatory and production greenhouses, including the root zone heating that keeps our plants happy and allows us to direct heat to the soil where it is most needed for the plants instead of expending extra energy over-heating the ambient air. Steam and root-zone heating will be used in our new West Conservatory, too, but will be one of three systems used. We are also using sustainable geothermal and earth duct technologies to heat, temper air, and control humidity throughout the Longwood Reimagined site.
Want to learn more about this expansive project? Register for an upcoming Longwood Reimagined Member Talk on June 15 at 6:30 pm.

Join Us for Pennsylvania Native Species Day! |
Established by the Pennsylvania Invasive Species Council in 2022, Pennsylvania Native Species Day, which falls on May 18, seeks to showcase Pennsylvania’s native species on land and in water, while highlighting the importance of reducing invasive species to sustain Pennsylvania’s biodiverse ecosystem and all that depends on it.
We'll be celebrating in our Gardens on May 20 with a variety of walks and talks. Hear from our experts on such topics as what it takes to keep native meadow communities vibrant to how to incorporate native plants in your own home garden. Visit our website for a full listing of events taking place.
