"24-in-24" Ironman Mile Marathon Challenge |
Over Thanksgiving break, 17 Paladins ran in the second annual "24-in-24" Ironman Mile Marathon Challenge benefitting CanCare.org. Participants completed a full 26.2-mile marathon over a 24-hour period by running 1.1 miles every hour for 24 hours straight.
In 2024, PCS students Kaeden Beno, Sara Kate Beno, and Henry Stevens hatched an idea to run an "Ironman Mile" marathon for fun, as well as to raise awareness and support for a local charity. Kaeden and Sara Kate built out "24-in-24" as a recurring event and selected CanCare as the 2024-2026 beneficiary. CanCare provides hope and healing to individuals living with cancer and their caregivers by connecting them to survivors who walk alongside them during their cancer journey. CanCare also provides free training to organizations who want to offer cancer support within their community and partners with healthcare organizations to make a difference in the patient/caregiver journey.
This year's runners represented PCS cross country, track & field, swimming, volleyball, soccer, and basketball athletes: Sam Bachelder, Kaeden Beno, Sara Kate Beno, Xavier Birch, William Bruce, Ethan Eppers, Owen Eppers, Savannah Goodwin, JT Hickman, Price Jenkins, Ava Jones, Santi Martinez, Savannah Ohmes, Carter Self, Henry Stevens (c/o 2024), Luke Williamson, and James Wimberly.
Between the ten minutes of running each hour, the kids shared snacks, discussions, and fun activities and had an opportunity to pray over newlyweds Crystal & Carrington Powell in preparation for Carrington's second brain cancer surgery at only 25 years old. Carrington shared with the Paladins what CanCare has meant to him and his family and how fundraising helps train volunteers to offer important emotional support.
For more information on the 24-in-24 fundraiser or to get involved with CanCare, please contact Sandra Beno at 713-922-2839.
