Native Convening - You're Invited! |
Thursday, December 15, 2022 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
@ Smith Building - Heritage University
Yakama Nation, ESD 105 and Heritage University, are pleased to announce the first Native convening of the school year. The event is intended for school district and building leaders, as well as school board members.
Attendees should come with an open mind ready to help generate enthusiasm, capacity and sustainability for continued growth of the relationship between the Nation and school districts who reside on the historical lands of the Yakama people. The day-long collaborative event will feature learning sessions on Since Time Immemorial curriculum and land acknowledgments. The Yakama Nation has donated salmon for a luncheon. Breakfast and coffee service will also be available.
We ask that superintendents act as the main point of contact for this event and that they complete the RSVP for anyone representing their school district.
Questions can be directed to Shane Backlund or Henry Strom.

Next Generation GLAD® Training |
REGISTRATION OPEN!
Cohort 1: January 24, March 13, May 17, 2023
Cohort 2: February 17, April 10, June 1, 2023
GLAD® next generation™ is three non-consecutive days with a hands-on learner-centered environment which can be provided as an introduction to OCDE Project GLAd® strategies, a refresher, or follow-up for educators in an action-research based learning environment.
This truncated training is designed to focus on instructional moves that align with the findings from John Hattie’s analysis in Visible Learning, language acquisition research, and meet the linguistic demands within the WIDA ELD Framework. Educators will deepen their knowledge about how language is acquired and will learn strategies that promote language development. Teachers will also practice using the focus strategies within their own classroom and bring samples of their implementation of the strategies to the next session as an opportunity to reflect on the student learning outcomes.

Teacher & Classified Employee of the Year Nominations Opening Soon!! |
It's time to start thinking about who will best represent your school and district! OSPI's statewide search for the 2023 Teacher of the Year and Classified Employee of the Year will begin in early January. Nominations will be open through February. Nominees will be encouraged to complete their nomination packets in March. From the pool of completed applications, we will select our regional winners to advance to the statewide competition this summer.
In 2022, we had 3 completed classified nomination packets from 3 different districts and 11 teacher of the year nominees, representing 8 of our 25 districts. We'd love to have at least one candidate from each district in each category! Be on the lookout for marketing materials to help encourage nominations next month!
