This edition, we are celebrating the commencement of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) with lots of relevant ocean content. The Ocean Decade seeks to support efforts to reverse the decline in the health of our oceans and gather stakeholders worldwide behind a common framework that will ensure ocean science can fully support countries in creating improved conditions for sustainable development of the ocean.

As we find ourselves (in Sydney) in yet another lockdown, we understand the challenges of home learning and encourage you to utilise the resources on our website to help keep students engaged. Our virtual programs are still running, and you can stay up-to-date with any upcoming programs or opportunities through the Science Alliance website and of course these newsletters.

With National Science Week just over a month away, there will be plenty of events across Australia with many online options to participate in so we encourage you to take part in our Nation's annual celebration of science and technology.

Live from the Lab is a celebration of science, music, arts and culture - six musicians and performers will partner with six science researchers from the University of Sydney, Faculty of Science.

The musicians will then share six brand-new compositions inspired by their emotional response to this cutting-edge research on FBi Radio. Hosted by Associate Professor Alice Motion (School of Chemistry, University of Sydney) and Courtney Ammenhauser as part of FBi Radio's weekly science segment Up and Atom.

Ideas for your school events

There are a lots of ways you can get your students, class, year level, school and community involved in National Science Week. Your participation can be as simple as a display in the school library, a Brain Break quiz event or as complex as a whole-school science fair.
