Looking to the Year Ahead — A Letter from the Board Chair
by Gary Mangiofico, OD Network Board Chair
Gary Mangiofico
Dear OD Network Colleagues:
I am honored to serve as the Board Chair for OD Network for 2018. This is such an amazing organization whose mission to support the development and practice of Organization Development is a noble one. Like so many of you I have benefited from the work of the OD Network leaders, staff, and countless volunteers over the years and am committed to the privilege of giving back to an organization that enriches the lives of our professional community.
OD Emergence: Create the Possibility...
In a world that never stops changing, it's not enough to just keep up — we need to look ahead and anticipate the changes yet to come.
That's why we're excited to announce the theme of the 2018 OD Network Annual Conference: OD Emergence: Create the Possibility...
Our profession faces an exciting future as technology, globalization, and cultural shifts impact how people work together. What is our next chapter? Join us October 18-21 in Alexandria, Virginia, as we take stock and explore what OD can become in the years ahead!
Over the coming weeks and months, we will be preparing a conference filled with opportunities to explore our potential — and we need your participation! We're currently looking for volunteers for a number of roles, and there's more to come:
  • The Call for Proposals will open soon — start thinking about your contribution now!
  • Sponsorship and Exhibitor opportunities will be announced in early March — Connect with leading OD practitioners and support the work we do.
  • Award Nominations will open this spring — think about who deserves recognition in any of the OD Network award categories.
What does OD Emergence: Create the Possibility... mean to you? We'd love to hear your thoughts on the theme and any ideas you have about the conference. Contact us at conference@odnetwork.org to share your ideas.
We look forward to hearing from you, and seeing you in October. Mark your calendars today and plan to join us in Alexandria!
The Future of OD
This is the second article in our 2018 series on The Future of OD. What do you think? Join the conversation — we're on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter!
The OD Gathering: From the Founders to the Future
by Matt Minahan EdD, OD Network Member and former Board Chair
Matt Minahan
So, what happens when you invite 125 OD people to talk about the roots of OD, the future of work and the future of the field?
We did exactly that in December in Baltimore and found it to be a rich and rewarding three days of stimulating interaction. It was called From the Founders to the Future: A Gathering to Build OD for Tomorrow's World. The three days was full of provocative propositions, great interactions, and some wonderful insights and challenges for ourselves and our field. And we plan to do something similar two more times.

Quixotic…or A Calling?
by Irv Rubin, PhD, OD Network Member
During the mid-late 1960’s Jane Howard, with one exception, experienced firsthand a large host of T-groups across the globe. In her book, Please Touch, she shared her perspective on the power of T-groups and their potential for enabling/supporting social change. The “one exception” was the tape she reviewed of a T-group she was not invited to attend. The chapter you’ll find copied below, entitled “I Hope You Leave Your Brain to Harvard,” reflects her perspective on what, at the time, was referred to as “T-Group 15.”
Call for Webinars — Share Your Expertise
Our membership includes experts in all areas of OD practice — including you! Now you can share your expertise by presenting an OD Network webinar. We're always looking for high-quality content that helps OD practitioners grow their skills and knowledge.
Have a topic you'd like to share? Submit your webinar proposal on our website.
Call for Volunteers: 2018 Annual Conference
The OD Network is a collection of internals, externals, academics, and thought leaders who care deeply about shaping the future of our field. As a fully virtual and volunteer-led organization, we depend on member ideas, knowledge, and talent for deciding where and how we want to grow. With the alignment of many, each doing their small part, there is nothing we cannot collectively achieve.
Each month, Network News features select roles or projects that could use your expertise and care. Whether you have many hours or few, much experience or little, we’d like your contribution to help us make the OD Network even better. Help us help you connect your talent to meaningful volunteer opportunities with a short email about yourself here: talentconnect@odnetwork.org.
