» Garth Gets A Sign: For Garth Brooks, cancer hits entirely too close to home. Both his Mom and sister died from the disease. So when Teresa Shaw of Osage, Iowa, held up a sign that read "Chemo this morning, Garth tonight … Enjoying 'The Dance,'" during his Friday (11/7) performance in Minneapolis, the superstar took notice. Brooks gave the woman an up-close-and-personal performance of "The Dance," handed her his acoustic guitar, then proceeded to give an emotion-filled testimony to the crowd. "I'm one of those guys that said man, if God would just give a big old hand that comes down from the sky and write, 'I exist,' then there would never be any doubt," he said. "Well I wanna tell you right now, God just stuck his hand out and wrote, 'I exist,'" he added, pointing to Shaw's sign. "You have all of my strength. You have everybody's strength in here – and you go kick cancer's ass." Watch the full video here. |
» Military Men: To commemorate Veterans Day (11/11), we reached out to some country artists who have served in the military and asked them to share their memories of service, a story about their time in uniform and their thoughts on what Veterans Day means. Here's what Craig Morgan and Keni Thomas had to say:
Craig Morgan: Ten years active Army, 101st and 82nd Airborne. USO Merit Award recipient, Grand Ole Opry member.
Military Memory: I most remember relationships I established that I still have today. When you spend that much time in that type of an environment, you know each other's souls.
Story: After a jump, a close friend of mine was just wandering around on the drop zone – no Kevlar, no weapon, no gear. I ran up to him and asked him what he was doing and he said he was trying to find the keys to his HUMMV. First of all the HUMMV didn't have keys. Second of all he didn't have a HUMMV. He had received a severe concussion. This was one of the three times I saved his life!
Veterans Day: It's a day to celebrate those who provide us with our freedom and remember those who have made great sacrifices for us.
Keni Thomas: Army, 75th Ranger Regiment. Combat veteran of the 3rd Ranger Battalion, part of the Battle of Mogadishu (portrayed in the movie Blackhawk Down). Country artist and speaker.
Military Memory: What I remember most is the value of the people on your left and right. Taking care of one another is an absolute. Lives are on the line. You miss that when you get out into the real world where it can seem people are just out for themselves.
Story: In addition to music, I get to do about 100 dates a year as a motivational speaker. I try my best to use the story of the men I served with and the battle we fought to inspire people to be better leaders. As many times as I've told our story, I still consider it a privilege and an honor. Because I know by the grace of God, the only reason I am here is because of those men he placed on my left and right that day.
Veterans Day: They are your neighbors, your family, your military. As this next generation begin to transition home from 15 years of fighting, we as a community must help them back into the real world. It's as simple as saying, "Welcome home. Thank you for your service. You have earned the right to be happy. What can we do to help?" |
» Please Come to Boston: In just under 12 minutes and 10 months in advance, Kenny Chesney and Jason Aldean have sold out not one, but two nights at the Boston-area Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA. "When we first started talking about doing stadiums together next summer, Kenny and I circled Foxborough on the map and made it top priority," said Aldean. "It's going to be a long winter waiting on this one!" Added Chesney, "Boston, you guys knock me out! Your passion for life, music and rocking inspires me more than you even know. I can't believe it's gonna be ten months 'til I get there. But hearing this, man, I'm gonna be so ready when I get there."
These two dates mark the 12th and 13th time Chesney has sold out this venue. Chesney has always had a special place in his heart for Boston. He created the Spread the Love Fund to aid the amputee survivors of the Boston Marathon bombing, and it is the birthplace of the No Shoes Nation, which is commemorated with a Super Bowl-style banner hanging in the end zone of Gillette Stadium. |
