Longwood Gardens

Longwood from Home

Hello, March! The last few weeks of winter are upon us, and there are signs of spring popping up throughout the Gardens … and in our latest edition of Longwood from Home. Read on to learn about our upcoming pop-up clivia display, discover our new Seasonal Discovery Boxes, watch our Members-only The Beauty of Bonsai webinar recording, help us welcome our new 2022-23 Fellows cohort, and make plans to join us for our in-person Member Orientation and Member Appreciation Day in March.

Experience a Special Clivia Display

Enjoy a special display of Longwood’s six clivia releases—each a beautiful representation of our esteemed clivia breeding program—during our pop-up clivia display, on view March 11 through 13.
Get an up-close look at the salmon-colored Clivia miniata ‘Longwood Sunset’, the gorgeous, green-hued ‘Longwood Winter Green’, representing a rarity in the plant world, and the richly hued ‘Longwood Chimes’ with its complex blend of bronze, burnt orange, and dark red, among our other spectacular clivia releases dating back to the 1976 start of our breeding program.
Please note: The Garden Shop will feature a variety of clivia available for purchase beginning Saturday, March 12, while supplies last.
Meet the Fellows
We are pleased to announce the six exemplary professionals selected for the fifth cohort of our prestigious Fellows Program. Please join us in welcoming Danny Cox (Naples, FL); Ryan Gott, Ph.D., (Etna, PA); Amanda Hannah (Seattle, WA); Rama Lopez-Rivera (London, UK); Anamari Mena (Celebration, FL); and Rae Vassar (Philadelphia, PA).
Continuing our legacy of developing global leaders in horticulture, the 2022-23 Fellows Program cohort will join the hundreds of students from around the globe who have participated in Longwood’s renowned educational programs.
We are thrilled to welcome the class of 2023 to the Gardens in June as they begin their journey in public garden leadership.
Explore the Art Form of Bonsai
If you were unable to join us for our Members-only webinar, The Beauty of Bonsai with our Bonsai Curator Kevin Bielicki (or if you’d like to experience it again), we invite you to view this in-depth discussion about an art form steeped in patience and contemplation, and a practice that provides tremendous satisfaction and joy. Learn from Kevin as he shares tips for growing bonsai, his favorite plants to train, and what you can expect when growing bonsai at home. Experience the joy of this practice firsthand in the comfort of your own home.
