Co-op News

Good morning. Happy Friday, Feb. 20. This week we're obsessed with reports that an emerging 2026 food trend is the flavor known as "swangy"—a combination of spicy, sweet, and tangy. (We used to call that flavor "the bottom of a bag of trail mix," but now it’s apparently a lifestyle.)
Anyway, our boss says we can’t spend the whole newsletter deconstructing adjectives, so below are some updates that don't involve flavor profiles for Gen Alpha. Thanks for reading!

Happy Tartar Sauce Day!

Listen, we know the truth. Tartar sauce is just mayo that studied abroad and now refuses to be called a condiment. ("I am the reason the fish is even here." —Tartar Sauce)
Today is National Tartar Sauce Day, the only day of the year when dipping a fried stick of fish into a tub of tangy gloop is considered a cultural celebration instead of a desperate midnight snack. Whether you prefer a light sauce with just a hint of zing or something more swangy (there, we said it!), we’ve got the goods.
Seriously, we carry reaaaallllyyy good tartar sauces, and a good sauce can elevate your seafood meal to new heights. If you haven't tried upping your tartar sauce game, we invite you to swing by our stores today and try something new. Just be prepared if your cocktail sauce starts feeling neglected and seems strangely emotionally distant.

Staff Pick: Alaffia

Our friends at Alaffia started with a simple idea—that the tradition of cultivating West African shea butter could empower people and lift them out of poverty. Today, Alaffia is a global leader in socioeconomic justice.
Founded in 2003 as a shea butter cooperative, Alaffia handcrafts sustainable skin and hair care products using fair trade ingredients with no animal testing, ever. They also partner with The Global Alliance for Community Empowerment to invest in fair trade, maternal care, and child education.
Find skin and hair care products from Alaffia in all of our stores. And drop by our website for more staff picks.

Flash Sale Coming Next Friday

Abandon all hope, ye who enter your pantry.

Next Friday we’re throwing a Flash Sale for something so cult-status it’s basically a sweeping social movement with better seasoning. We aren't allowed to tell you what the product is yet, mostly because our marketing people have "feelings" about "building buzz." (Lame.) Just know it’s salty, chef-endorsed, and significantly more sophisticated than the lukewarm sadness many of us typically call "dinner."
More deets next week! For now, save the date—Friday, Feb. 27. All stores, one day only, while supplies last, massive savings on one ridiculously specific product.

Run for the Board

If you're just itching to serve your community while your face is Photoshopped into sundry humorous situations without your permission, boy do we have the opportunity for you!
Co-op Board elections are coming up in April. If you want to run—and heck, we know you do—all you have to do right now is declare your candidacy before the opportunity passes you by.
Over our 90-year history, our Board members have made immeasurable contributions to our region and, by extension, the greater global community. These are strange and uncertain times, and many people want to make a difference. This is a great way to do just that.
Fill out that form, altruistic humans!

New Local Product! Goodman's American Pie Frozen Pizza

Because apparently, good frozen pizza has
to impress people from New Jersey.

Listen, we know your freezer is currently a desolate graveyard of vast, unidentified leftovers and a single, frost-bitten pea. You deserve better. You deserve Goodman's American Pie!
FEATURES
The Local Pedigree: Handmade with love in small batches by great people in Vermont. So local you can actually taste the lack of "Big Pizza" corporate bureaucracy.
Dough with Gravitas: A crust that actually has the strength, taste, and texture of a great pizza crust. In fact, someone on our staff said it was so good that it even tasted like pizza in New Jersey. Yes, she's from New Jersey. (We get it, Erika. The Parkway has really great pizza.)
The 0% Science Fiction Label: Made with real ingredients you can actually pronounce, sourced locally whenever possible. (No AI-developed, lab-grown chemicals here.) It’s basically a salad, if you squint and ignore the delicious, bubbling cheese.
Co-op Staff Approved: Rigorously tested by our team during "break times" that definitely lasted longer than 15 minutes. We’ve done the heavy lifting so you don’t have to.
Find it in Lebanon and WRJ and tell us what you think!

Yes, It's Still Complicated

N.H. drivers, if you were planning on celebrating the end of car inspections, you might want to keep that sparkling cider on ice. One day inspections are required, the next day they’re not, and yep, we’re as dizzy as you are.
Remember, no matter where this lands, the state makes one thing very clear—drivers are responsible for ensuring that, "any vehicle driven in New Hampshire is safe to operate, regardless of the status of the inspection program."
Our Service Center Recommendations
To stay up to date on inspections, your best bet is to read these regular releases published by the state. In the meantime, if you want to be safe and avoid a roadside conversation with a nice person in a police cruiser, we can help. We make appointments easy! Book with us by email or text.

(Note—photo above from our Service Center back in the day. We're not sure what the car is, but we have a feeling it's faster than our copywriter's Toyota.)
