The Tennessee Department of Health Child Fatality Review has released these two reports. In 2023, Tennessee’s infant mortality rate was 6.5 deaths per 1,000 live births, which was 16.1% higher than the national rate. The Tennessee child fatality rate for ages 1-17 was 32.4 deaths per 100,000 children in 2023, which was 39% higher than the national average, marking the largest gap between the state and national rate in the last 5 years. The prevention recommendations in these reports focus on addressing key causes of infant and child deaths.
