BYM Camps Seeks Cleaning Help
|
Beloved and unflagging Opequon staff member Tymir will be making the rounds at our residential camps to help clean and prep Shiloh, Opequon, and Catoctin. He would love some help—paid or unpaid:
- June 9-10 Opequon
- June 11-12 Catoctin
- June 13-14 Shiloh
We would LOVE to recruit a bold and fearless Cleaning Hero to tackle Ruby's cabin (where Director Hope Swank lives during camp) which drives all but the boldest away because a (harmless, benevolent) black snake lives there and snakeskins can be found in and around the cabin. The goal is not to eradicate the snake, but rather to clean the living Daylights out of the cabin for our beloved Hope. All camps are particularly lovely in early June! If you would like to be paid for your labor, please reach out directly to Zora Tucker via text 301.658.1948 or email zoratucker@bym-rsf.org. We aren't feeding you, but we will pay $20/hr. Thanks, your industrious Interim Camping Program Manager

Join Adelphi Friends for a Kenyan Quaker Sermon
|
Join Adelphi Friends Meeting on Sun, Jun 15 at 12:15pm for a sermon by Adelphi Friend Bartholomew Miheso on the parable of the Good Samaritan. Friend Bartholomew was born and raised in the village of Magada in Western Kenya. Before coming to the US, he and served as a Friends Pastor, on the board of East African Yearly Meeting, and then as general secretary of Nairobi Yearly Meeting. Bartholomew and his wife, Ruth, have been worshipping at Adelphi Meeting since settling in Maryland more than 20 years ago. Bartholomew’s sermon is sponsored by the Adelphi Change Group and presents North American Friends an opportunity to hear the expression of Quaker faith in language and cadence that may be new to us. There will be time to reflect on his message and the means of presentation
afterwards.

Joseph Hartt Coates, Jr. (Jerry) (Eastland Preparative and Frederick), passed unexpectedly from a stroke on June 4, 2025. Farmer, mechanic, Quaker Minister to many, advocate and protector, caretaker, and Earth steward were just a handful of the ways that Jerry walked his path. A Memorial service is planned for July 26th from 11:00-noon at Easltand Preparative Meeting House in Nottingham, PA with a repass following. RSVP to JoAnn at jocohunter06@gmail.com if you plan on staying for the repass. Jerry wouldn’t want us to run out of food.

| Celebrating BYM Graduates
|
Clara Bortolot (Valley Friends Meeting) graduated from Stuart Hall School. Clara will be attending Bryn Mawr College in the fall where she hopes to major in political science. Her decision to attend a historically Quaker college and major in political science was heavily influenced by her participation in the local FCNL advocacy team and the RISE program at Guilford College last summer. Congratulations, Clara! Have a graduate to celebrate? Send their name and a photo to admin@bymr-sf.org.
