EASC Awards 13 ACE-Nikaido Fellowships
Congratulations to EASC's 13 Association for Japan-U.S. Community Exchange (ACE) - Nikaido Fellowship award recipients for summer 2015 and AY 2015-16! Available to full-time USC graduate student from any discipline of study, including both domestic and international students, the ACE-Nikaido Fellowship aims to support and advance the study and understanding of Japan and/or U.S.-Japan relations.

Event Wrap: EASC Global East Asia Orientation
EASC hosted the general orientation for the summer 2015 Global East Asia (GEA) China and Japan scholars last Wednesday to explain the study abroad program logistics and requirements. The China course will be taught by Prof. Brett Sheehan and the Japan course by Prof. Lon Kurashige, both in History, and they will be supported by TAs, Yunwen Gao (PhD student in EALC) for China and Yu Tokunaga (PhD student in History) for Japan. EASC is excited to be able to offer both courses and send the two groups of outstanding undergraduates representing USC and EASC to China and Japan this summer.

Event Wrap: EALC Graduate Student Conference 
The inaugural graduate conference Memory, Moment, Mobility in East Asia was held this weekend at USC and featured presentations from keynote faculty panelists from UCLA, UCSB and Concordia University. Graduate students representing 17 universities from the region and as far away as Australia and London gathered to present on the latest research in the fields of history, literature, cinema, and linguistics of Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, and Singapore. The packed conference room was the site of engaged conversation that continued into the evening at the Keynote dinner.  
Event Reminder: EASC Taiwanese Documentary Series 
The second of the series will take place on Thursday, April 16 and Saturday, April 18. It will feature the works by award-winning filmmaker Director KE Chin-Yuan, whose films focus on environmental issues. The three films selected to be shown at USC will explore the subject of interaction between human development and the natural environment. The EASC Taiwanese Documentary Series is made possible by the Spotlight Taiwan grant from the Taiwan Academy of the Ministry of Culture, Republic of China, with additional support provided by Special Patron Dr. Samuel Yin, the USC School of Cinematic Arts, and the USC Pacific Asia Museum.

Event Reminder: Spring 2015 EASC Grad Mixer 
The Spring 2015 EASC Grad Mixer is Thurs., April 30 from 4:00–6:00pm at College House (CLH). Graduate students studying East Asia from any field are invited to enjoy food and conversation with students across USC and to learn more about EASC funding and other opportunities.

We are happy to share the great news of EALC undergraduate student Connor Gustafson's achievement at the 14th Chinese Bridge–Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students in the Southwest U.S. on April 3. Connor Gustafson proudly represented USC and placed second in the advanced group. EALC's very own Nansong Huang-laoshi also received the "Award for the Best Organizer." Congratulations to both teacher and student on their wonderful achievements!
