-
Each year, the Global Education Center serves over 30,000 students with interactive arts programming that uses the arts of the world to aid in dispelling myths, dismantling stereotypes, and alleviating fears to help create a welcoming, inclusive, and healthy community for all.
- For 31 years, the Nissan Foundation has supported educational programs that promote a greater appreciation and understanding of America’s diverse cultural heritage
Nashville, TN – The Nissan Foundation today named GLOBAL EDUCATION CENTER as a 2023 grant recipient. The Nissan Foundation grant will help fund workshops, residencies, performances, and after school programming in area schools throughout Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky as well as professional development for preK – 12 educators, enabling us to keep fees low and accessible for all school populations.
According to Director Ellen Gilbert, “Passport to Understanding is the oldest and one of the most effective programs of the GLOBAL EDUCATION CENTER, serving thousands of students each year and offering professional development in multicultural arts integration to hundreds of teachers each year. Now serving children and teachers that spans four generations, our organization is proud of our culturally unique place in the artistic fabric of our community and most appreciative of the many years of support given us by The Nissan Foundation.”
The Nissan Foundation was created in 1992 as a thoughtful response to the three weeks of violent civil unrest that occurred near Nissan North America’s then U.S. sales and marketing operations in Southern California following the Rodney King trial verdict. Nissan established a $5 million endowment to promote cultural diversity within southern Los Angeles neighborhoods.
