RS SERIES DRAIN WATER COOLING HOSE AND UPGRADED SCALE MANAGEMENT PARTS
TB #:  TB-20-03
Date: July 3, 2020
Product Lines Affected: RS Series
RS Units Updated Cleaning / Maintenance Table
Condair is continuously working towards optimizing and improving our products through internal testing and feedback found in the field. The RS series humidifiers with scale management technology contain key consumable components that need to be replaced over an operating period of 5000 hours or 3 years of service life. Failure to replace parts within the recommended time period could result in parts failing. It is recommended that customers clean, inspect and replace components within the 5000 hour or 3 year operating period so as to avoid leaking issues.
Product Upgrade – RS Humidifier Enhanced Connection Rings

It has been seen in the field that hairline cracks can form on the connection ring during heating and cooling cycles. The scale management system is a consumable product therefore operating these components past the 5000 hours or 3 years of operation can result in the development of hair line cracks.

Solution

To mitigate this issue an upgraded connection ring, snap ring kit and scale management tank have been designed. The connection rings, snap rings and gaskets for the scale management tank have been upgraded to increase the strength of the components. The snap ring’s gasket has been upgraded to a softer material to further enhance sealing capabilities and reduce stress on the connection ring.

If you suspect that the unit is leaking from the scale management system, please inspect the system for cracks in the scale management components and follow the steps below for acquiring a replacement scale management system.

1. Document where the unit is leaking from, with pictures and/or detailed description. Note any cracks, defects or abnormal deformities from the scale management system.

2. Write down the serial number from the unit

3. Take a picture or write down the material code from the connection ring or scale management tank, it will be either PPS or PPE.  (see below for an example)

4. PPS = Newly designed scale management system

5. PPE = Older designed scale management system

6. Contact Condair’s warranty department; supply them with the serial number of the leaking unit, estimated hours of operation of the leaking unit and material code obtained from the bottom of the connection ring or scale management tank.

The scale management system replacement for leaking scale management systems will be required to use the part number 2599518 for ordering replacements.

All scale management components (Connection ring, O-rings, Snap ring and Scale tank) must be replaced at the same time.  The newly designed scale management tank is not backwards compatible with the old design.

Since the scale management components are considered consumables they should all be replaced in conjunction with each other. Therefore the scale management components are now all captured in one singular part number as opposed to multiple part numbers.

The newly designed scale management system is estimated to be made available for ordering by Mid July to end of July. A newsletter in July will announce the availability of the newly designed scale management system.

We would like to iterate that this is a consumable product that requires careful maintenance. Failure to properly maintain these components and clean the scale management system properly can result in material cracking and leaks. It’s recommended that the scale management systems components are replaced every 5000 hours of operation or every 3 years, which ever comes first.

At Condair we continuously make improvements on our products and greatly appreciate the feedback given to us from agents and customers in the field.

Known Issue - Santoprene Drain Water Cooling Hose

A known issue with the Santoprene Drain Water Cooling Hose has been identified. The hose has been found to deteriorate and allow for leaking if it comes in contact with the steam cylinder.
Solution
We as that technicians route the white Santoprene Drain Water Cooling Hose behind the black drain pump hose and in front of the condensate return hose. Use tie wraps to fasten Santoprene drain water cooling hose back onto metal bracket.
When reconnecting the santoprene hose back to the drain water cooling bracket, ensure it is fastened with a tie wrap and directed towards the drain water cooling canal inlet. Please see below for an example of how the hose should be fastened to the bracket.
Please see below for an example of how the santoprene drain water cooling hose should look when it is re-routed behind the black EPDM pump hose.
