Explore Telework During Telework Week!

Nothing drives home the importance of having a back up plan like two feet of snow, and with more severe weather on the way, it's the perfect time to think aobut a back up plan involving telework!

Telework will enable your employees to work whenever and wherever, no matter the weather!

You can even start planning now to give telework a try during Telework Week March 3-7, 2014.

According to Kylie Bopp of the Mobile Work Exchange, more than 136,000 people pledged to telework during Telework Week 2013. This translates into $12.3 million worth of savings in commuting costs, 665,936 hours spent not commuting, and removing 7,892 tons of pollutants from the air, while refraining from driving 12.1 million miles.

Commuter Spotslight: Heather Calcote of Wellness Corporate Solutions

When you hear someone say they are going to “run home,” most people don’t mean literally running home.

But Heather Calcote (seen in a photo by Jonathan Thorpe of lululemon Georgetown), a Wellness Coach at Wellness Corporate Solutions, is not like most people. If she says she’s running home, she is running from her office in downtown Bethesda to her home near Woodley Park in Washington, DC.

Her route is approximately 5 miles and she has been running the return leg of her commute (she metros to work) since September to get in shape for a marathon.

“If I can get myself home and get a workout in at the same time, it’s more efficient,” she says.  And she saves money by not driving or taking transit!

Heather’s employer, Wellness Corporate Solutions, is supportive of their employees who opt out of traffic and gridlock. Employees contribute to a Transit Flexible Spending Account (FSA) on a pre-tax basis to help with commuting costs. A “casual culture” also makes it easier for those choosing more active commutes.

Heather has saved both time and money by combining her workout and commute, but the best part of running home from work is the opportunity to decompress at the end of the day.

No more quarters: New parking meters in Bethesda will have the ability to take credit cards!

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) Division of Parking is currently installing 840 new on-street parking meters in Downtoown Bethesda. The new meters will enable customers to pay by credit card, in addition to paying by coins or using their cell phone.

The new meters will not be able to accept Cash Keys, however. You can trade in your old cash key for a new "special value card" with the equivalent to the cash key’s loaded value plus the original deposit ($15.00).  According to MCDOT, "the value cards can be used like a credit card in the smart meters until their value is zeroed out." You may exchange your Cash Key for the card at the Bethesda Parking Store, 4720 Cheltenham Drive, Bethesda, Maryland.

The changeover is expected to take about two weeks.
