Greetings from the Library where we're revelling in a post-rain afterglow (if such a thing could exist). Why? Simple. After the Soberanes Fire, we need brief, mellow spates of rain. Not apocalyptic multi-day maelstrom-storms. And fortunately, the last few days thankfully brought a dusting. So that's nice!
We have a sneaking suspicion that this Digest will also be rather nice, so off we go!
Big Sur Stories: The Next Phase Commences!
Thanks to a grant from Cal Humanities, we launched Big Sur Stories as a portal capturing the memories, insights, and reflections of individuals who have called this rugged, wonderful area home. (The picture to the left comes from last October's launch party at the Grange.)
If you've yet to check out Big Sur Stories, please click here!
It's exciting stuff, but as it turns out, we've only scratched the surface of our plans for Big Sur Stories.
Our next phase is unfolding as we speak. In short, our goal is to generate high-quality interviews and recordings that educate listeners about Big Sur’s artistic past and present, while also catalyzing discussion around the creative process in a region known for its natural beauty.

2016: Looking Back on the Year that Was!
To quote John Lennon, "Was it just a dream?" That is, did we just imagine the previous 11 months, which included, among other things, cabaret, Cass McCombs, a visit from Henry's fifth wife Hoki Tokuda, the Soberanes Fire Relief benefit show, Jonathan Richman...??

Mark Your Calendars! New Directions to publish
Wisdom of the Heart
on December 6th!
It actually isn't very often a publisher brings a Miller title back into print, but that's precisely the case with the classic Wisdom of the Heart.
New Directions will be publishing this "essential collection of writings, bursting with Henry Miller’s exhilarating candor and wisdom" on December 6th.
In this selection of stories and essays, Henry Miller elucidates, revels, and soars, showing his command over a wide range of moods, styles, and subject matters. Writing “from the heart,” always with a refreshing lack of reticence, Miller involves the reader directly in his thoughts and feelings.
Click here for more info. We can't think of a better stocking stuffer!
Check out Bob Dylan's (Miller-Laden) Reading List!
Speaking of New Directions, On October 18th, the publisher printed a list of ND books recommended by Nobel Prize winner, Bob Dylan!  Check out the full list here. (Photo by Dale Smith.)
Spoiler alert: Book number three is Henry's Big Sur and the Oranges of Hieronymus Bosch.
Bob Dylan: “I like Henry Miller. I think he's the greatest American writer. I met him. Years ago. Played ping-pony with him.”
