Hooray for PACCAR

This year marks the 10th year of support by PACCAR, the company behind the Kenworth and Peterbuilt trucks you probably see on the freeway every day. They are also the company who sponsors 'RBI's for Literacy' with the Seattle Mariners, making a gift each time a run is batted in.  This wonderful promotion has raised enough to purchase more than 130,000 new books for kids in need!!! And PACCAR employees have collected an additional 20,000 new books through work site book drives.  Thank you, PACCAR!
Do YOU work for PACCAR?  Share a PACCAR Book Drive photo or story from your work site - we will feature it in our highlights next month.  Thank you!

PACCAR - Mariners Book Drive

We set a new record at the PACCAR - Seattle Mariners Book Drive on August 23rd, raising over $1,700 (and some fine new books as well)! We want to say a HUGE Thank you to the 70 volunteers from Page Ahead, PACCAR/Kenworth, and Ernst & Young that came out to spread the word about the importance of early childhood literacy and to encourage baseball fans to donate to kids in need. THANK YOU!
Announcements
This month we say a fond farewell to our esteemed colleague Susan Waller, Corporate & Foundation Relations Manager for Page Ahead. She will be leaving Page Ahead this August to spend more time with her family and prepare her daughter for college. Susan has devoted 15 years of service to helping kids in need get the chance to read. We will miss you, Susan!

Book Review

Puddle by Hyewon Yum
Ages 4-7
What is there not to love about this book? Yum's latest book is inventive and charming, with a wonderful message to boot. The young boy in Puddle is upset when his planned day of outdoors adventure is ruined by a sudden rainstorm (a predicament that many kids - and adults! - can relate to). Readers will love seeing the boy's bad mood slowly lift with each new drawing, and will especially enjoy the moment when he drags his mom outside to stomp around in big puddles with an even bigger smile on his face. Bonus: it's perfect for the long, rainy Seattle months ahead!
