The Feast of Saints Peter and Paul is observed on June 29 but is sometimes moved to the following Monday and this year it was held on July 3. Saints Peter and Paul were martyred in Rome and now more than one billion Catholic Christians, speaking hundreds of languages, owe their faith to the preaching and the witness of these two Jewish believers in Christ. The Church’s astonishing diversity is reflected today in the Middle East, where Armenian, Chaldean, Coptic, Latin, Maronite, Melkite, and Syrian Christians worship and pray and serve. The Church in India, which, according to tradition, traces its origin to the preaching of Saint Thomas, is today a thriving center of religious vocations, sending missionaries throughout the world.
