Middle States Accreditation Steering Committee

To Our Stony Brook Community:

Since Fall 2021, Stony Brook has been engaged in our Middle States Accreditation Reaffirmation, a university-wide process of evaluating how effective we are at educating and supporting our students, and an important federal requirement for financial aid and research.

To date, our reaffirmation team of approximately 100 faculty, staff, students and other key stakeholders has produced and submitted our Self-Study Design, collected hundreds of pieces of evidence demonstrating our compliance with Middle States standards, and prepared initial drafts of the chapters of our Self-Study Report, which is due to Middle States in Fall 2023.

As part of our efforts to communicate progress and collect community feedback, we invite you to attend a series of guided discussions where our working groups will present their preliminary evidence, gather initial responses, and answer questions from community members. Seven discussions – one for each Middle States standard – will take place from April 11 to April 21

To sign up for these events, please go to our registration form.

For more information on our Middle States accreditation, please visit our reaffirmation website, which contains helpful resources and documents such as our Self-Study Design. Or contact us with any questions at middlestates@stonybrook.edu.

We look forward to sharing our progress with you at these events and other opportunities for community feedback in the months ahead.

Sincerely,
