Welcome to the First Edition of the Office of Special Events Newsletter!

We are excited to launch a quarterly newsletter to provide you with helpful resources and tips for planning successful events in Boulder. Whether you're organizing your first event or you're a seasoned planner, we’re here to support you with the tools you need to succeed.

A special event permit is required for all planned and promoted public activities conducted on public property that meet any of the following criteria:

When the expected number of participants and spectators totals 50 or more people; and/or
When using tents, structures and/or sound amplification; and/or
When providing, selling or distributing alcohol and/or food to the public; and/or
When using public right of ways (e.g., city streets, multi-use paths and sidewalks), and/or impacting vehicle, bike or bus traffic.

Safety is a top priority for all our permitted events. Therefore, every event organizer is required to complete our Emergency Action Plan Fillable Template for each event.

Class I and Class II events require more robust plans in addition to our required form.

Remember, you can submit your permit application up to 365 days in advance. Even if you don’t have all the details or required documents yet, you can submit the application and update it with uploads and comments as your planning progresses.

Congratulations to Lane Landrith on a well-deserved retirement! Lane helped support the Office of Special Events for over 18 years. Many of those who organized events in our city worked closely with him to ensure proper permitting and application processes were followed. Lane - you will be missed!
