To the Campus Community,
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recently authorized a second booster vaccine shot for people 50 years of age or older. Below is guidance for a second booster dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.
Members of the UMass Boston community can schedule appointments for a second booster dose by calling University Health Services (617-287-5660). Students and UMB employees can schedule visits through the My Health Beacon Portal. Recipients must show proof of receiving a primary booster and primary series.
The updated guidelines for a second booster dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine applies to people over the age of 50 and certain immunocompromised individuals who don’t need to be over the age of 50.
The intent of this updated guidance is to increase protection against severe disease caused by COVID-19. UMass Boston is not requiring a second booster dose at this time, but it is available to those who believe they would benefit from the added protection of a second booster shot. Note that to be eligible, the first booster shot must have been administered four months prior to the second booster shot.
Best regards,
