Ready for Winter
We are excited to welcome you back this winter. Since the end of last season, we have spent the summer re-imagining how we run every facet of our resort operations in order to ensure we can safely deliver an Experience of a Lifetime to our guests and employees. You are a part of a company that collectively has been on a journey of change and agility; we are operating differently, we are interacting differently, we are thinking differently. What hasn’t changed is who we are; our vision, our mission and our values. Our company’s vision, To Re-Imagine the Mountain Experience, has never been more applicable than it is now. Our mission—to create an experience of a lifetime for you, our employees, so that you can create an experience of a lifetime for our guests—has been driving us all through the summer. And each one of our values; Be Safe - Serve Others - Have Fun - Do Good - Drive Value - Do Right - Be Inclusive has taken on new meaning and importance. This guide has been created to help you in your role through the first days and weeks of the winter season. Keep it handy and return to it often as a place to find the answers you need.
Some of you may have already seen this guide in your Return to Winter training assigned to you on The LIFT. As we continue to onboard the whole team back for winter, keep your eyes on your inbox for updates on training and any remaining documents that you will need to complete. If you have questions about logging in on The LIFT or next steps you can refer to the Return to Winter tile in EpicEmployee.

Health Screenings
As an employee of the State of Vermont and Vail Resorts, you are required to complete a health screening before each day of work with us. This can be done from your web browser or mobile device on EpicEmployee.
Each day you come on-site for work or any work-related activities or shifts, you must do the following:
- Take your temperature (we will be providing thermometers to employees)
- Note whether your temperature is less than 100.4 F or 38 C
- Log in to the EpicEmployee website or mobile app and click the button to Take Today’s Health Screening
- Answer all of the questions and click submit
- If you pass the health screening, you’ll receive a green “Cleared” badge. Proceed to work and show the badge to your manager.
- If you fail the health screening, you are not permitted to work and you will receive a red “Denied” badge. DO NOT go to work. Please follow the prompts to open a case in Direct Connect within 8 hours. You’ll receive detailed instructions on next steps, including emergency sick leave (if applicable) and return to work.

Equipment Inspections
As instructors, we need to have our equipment inspected by our department or our Vail Resorts Retail (VRR) team. This inspection will ensure your boots and bindings are effective and compatible, keeping you safe on the mountain this winter!
Please ensure you have each piece of equipment used in the course and scope of your employment inspected within 30 days of your first day skiing/riding for work. After the inspection, you’ll receive a sticker for your gear that shows it has been approved.
Please review the information in the link below to determine which type of inspection you need (password: 2021snow).

From POWDER To DEI - A Note from CEO Rob Katz
"Be Safe, Do Right, Do Good, Serve Others, Drive Value and Have Fun. These values describe who we are as a company and as a culture. And over the past six months, they have been our north star – guiding our decisions, actions and behaviors as we have navigated one of the most challenging situations in the history of our company. Having to respond and pivot around unprecedented challenges has in many ways positioned us to think differently, and more bravely, about everything – including the topic of diversity and inclusion in our company, our sport and our industry. To ground us and guide us in what will be a multi-year journey to tackle this important topic, I am pleased to share that we are adding a new core value:
Be Inclusive. Welcome everyone to our company, resorts and communities - Include all races, gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities, and other differences.
This approach acknowledges that progress with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) starts with each of us as leaders taking the time to listen, learn and grow in our own understanding and ability to Be Inclusive. In order to broaden our efforts on DEI beyond gender to include all forms of diversity, we will evolve our existing POWDER platform. We are establishing a centralized core team of diverse leaders who will work with myself and our Chief Human Resources Officer Lynanne Kunkel to shape the company’s broader DEI agenda, multi-year strategy and roadmap, and a new development program called Leading Diversity, Equity and Inclusion that will replace our POWDER events.
As leaders, each of us needs to hold ourselves accountable to this work, to growing, learning and leading in this space – myself included. With that in mind, I am excited to share that last week I signed the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion pledge. CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion is the largest CEO-driven business commitment to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace. I am proud to be among 1300 CEOs, across 85 industries, including 25 CEOs within travel and leisure, pledging to take action. I share more details in the following segment from the Leadership Summit.
You will hear more about this announcement and our future plans at our company-wide DEI virtual event in November."
