Learning Landscapes Volunteer Training
Vernon School Tree Planting
Curiosity and enthusiasm are found in abundance at Learning Landscapes tree plantings. Come join us on February 3rd to become part of the Learning Landscapes program!

Are you looking for a way to share your love of nature with youth and to volunteer in a meaningful way? Then we have the event for you!

The Learning Landscapes program empowers students to plant trees at their schools with the assistance of Urban Forestry staff and volunteers. The volunteer time that community members like you give to the program allows us to reach over 500 students a year!
Please join us for a Planting Assistant training on Saturday, February 3rd from 9:00 am to noon. You will learn everything you need to know to be a volunteer with Learning Landscapes, including how to properly plant a tree. After the training, volunteers will be asked to sign up to join three school tree planting events in the future. Lots of fun and fresh air are waiting for you!

There is quite a difference between fruit tree pruning and street tree pruning! Learn techniques from certified arborists that will help keep your fruit tree healthy and producing good quality fruit.
Our demonstration orchard was planted in 2010, and includes 55 diverse fruit and nut trees for hands on practice, but space in this workshop is limited to 20 participants.
If you're a beginner to fruit tree pruning, you won't want to miss this, and if you already have experience, then come sharpen those skills!

Tell us which parks to inventory in 2018!

Park Tree Inventory volunteers identify a tree.
Portland has over 200 developed parks, and in 2017, 51 of those were inventoried by staff and volunteers working on the Park Tree Inventory. We are now accepting applications from community members for parks to inventory in 2018! Will your park be one of them?
The Tree Inventory Project wants to hear from you. Urban Forestry’s effort to map, measure, and assess the trees that make up Portland’s spectacular urban forest is driven by volunteers, and this starts with where we inventory!

We are currently seeking applications from interested Tree Teams and individuals to have their neighborhood park inventoried this summer. By participating in the Park Tree Inventory, your group helps to organize workdays and in the process gets to know your park a little better—and recruit a few new members!

for applications and more information on our website. Applications are due February 15. For questions, email treeinventory@portlandoregon.gov.
