March is National Nutrition Month: The IUP Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics (SAND) invites you to participate in its seventh annual National Nutrition Month Crock-Pot Cook-off on Wednesday, March 22, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the HUB Susquehanna Room. This year’s event will feature soup! To enter or to get further information, please contact Olivia Gambill, tywcc@iup.edu, or Anna Marie Bostaph, rxtbc@iup.edu. If cooking is not your forte, please attend, sample the soups, and vote for your favorite. All proceeds from this event will go to the IUP Food Pantry and Help Center.

IUP Values Me
Gabriella is a biology education major with a chemistry minor and will graduate in December 2023. Her career goal is to become a high school teacher. A member of the Cook Honors College, she serves as treasurer of Phi Eta Sigma and as a diversity peer mentor. Gabriella is one of the founding members and is the current president of Students Against Racism (IUP-SAR), an organization that empowers students to take a stand against racism, bigotry, and other forms of hatred in our world. Through her leadership, SAR holds regular meetings and hosts special events (find information below on this week’s Charity Ball). Gabriella and SAR are members of the DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) Student Organization Alliance, a cohort that meets regularly and assists in the collaboration of DEI-minded groups. Staff Spotlight: Ann Sesti
Ann has been employed by IUP for 32 years and has more than 35 years of experience in drug and alcohol prevention and treatment. She is a licensed counselor in Pennsylvania and the director of IUP’s Office of Student Wellness and Engagement, which includes the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD) Program. She is considered a strong ATOD regional consultant and is a certified Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS) facilitator, conducting trainings nationwide. She recently became a certified health and well-being coach. Ann serves as a Title IX deputy through the Office of Social Equity and Title IX and provides necessary student support. In all of her roles, she believes in providing compassionate, trauma-informed care, and she strives to meet students where they are and to provide a comfortable, nonjudgmental environment. Ann is the advisor to two student organizations, Collegiate Women in Progress and BACCHUS. She has facilitated the Empowering Women Series this semester (see the description below for this week’s session) and was recently appointed an interim cochair of the President’s Commission on the Status of Women at IUP (Women’s Commission). We thank you, Ann!

| Lavender Graduation will be held Friday, April 21.
LGBTQIA Support and the Center for Multicultural Student Leadership and Engagement will host Lavender Graduation in the Elkin Hall Great Room on April 21. A reception will begin at 2:00 p.m., and the ceremony will follow at 2:30 p.m. Please contact lgbtqia-support@iup.edu to register or for further information.

For the past 30 years, the Mystical Arts of Tibet tours by the monks of Drepung Loseling Monastery have crossed the globe to offer these authentic, sacred Tibetan arts to enchanted audiences in major cities and smaller communities alike. Heide Witthoeft, associate professor of German in the Department of Foreign Languages, will discuss how girls and women are represented in well-known fairy tales and how these tales shape children’s visions of female gender roles. Dr. Witthoeft will challenge your opinions of Cinderella, Snow White, and Little Red Riding Hood and will compare versions of characters in different cultures.
