| President's Message
If you didn't attend BOMA San Diego’s Day at the Races, you missed out on a fantastic day! I needed some help carrying $1m cash home! Now settle down everyone, I promise that if this were true I would remember all my BOMA friends. My winnings were actually $2.20 on a $2 bet, very exciting. However, I did get to visit the cash office at the track where the money is counted and hold $1m in cash it was a lot of fun. Thank you to the Special Events Committee for planning such a great event.
As Property Managers are working on budgets and Service Providers are being asked to provide bids, remember to use your BOMA associates as resources. Between us all, we have a wealth of knowledge, information, and the ability to educate and provide accurate budget numbers. Good luck everyone with your budgets, remember that budget season doesn't last forever, although it may seem like it does at the time!
Thank you to the Community Services Committee, Sponsors and Volunteers for organizing and participating in the Summer Work Party at the Boys and Girls Club. It was so rewarding to see the dramatic transformation, check out the photos on the BOMA Facebook page.

Education Committee Update ENHANCE YOUR CAREER - ENROLL FOR YOUR RPA! July Luncheon Recap On July 12, 2016, the BOMA membership gathered at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse. We were joined by many interested, potential members in conjunction with the Membership Drive, and even documented the large turnout with a group selfie! The increase in attendance was also due to the relevant topic discussed by our sought after speaker. Marshall Merrifield, Chairman on the Board of Port Commissioners, shared with us information about the plans for the the Port of San Diego. Government Affairs Committee Update At their July meeting the BOMA Government Affairs Committee heard from representatives from the San Diego Housing Commission about a proposal headed for the November ballot. Article 34 of the State Constitution, adopted in 1950, states that any low-rent housing that is developed, constructed, or acquired by a state public agency requires voter approval. In the City of San Diego four past ballot measures have authorized the capacity for up to 10,500 affordable units, of which 7,253 have been utilized leaving only 3,247 units of capacity remaining. Math Is Money.. Budgets Equal Chaos I was not always like this when it came to numbers. As a teenager, math was not my best subject. It was honestly intimidating. Until one day, my grandfather taught me a concept that I still use today; “Math Is Money”. My grandfather explained that every aspect of math, truly impacts some sort of dollar and cents. It is how you look at it and understand the ripple effect that allows you to appreciate the concept. He simplified it for me, and he was right. We all care about money. Money is easier to understand because it’s personal. Your livelihood impacts your day to day life. Keeping this concept in my mind while attending the Budget & Accounting BOMA class, provided me the opportunity to truly see the influence finance has with property management.
