"Starbucks, Chipotle construction begins in Bridgeport" - News 12
Construction has begun at Steelpointe Harbor in Bridgeport on the city's first Starbucks and Chipotle locations.
Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch and Sen. Richard Blumenthal were on hand for the groundbreaking ceremony Saturday.
The site of Starbucks and Chipotle is right next to a Bass Pro Shops, which is already under construction.
Officials say that Steelpointe is the biggest economic development project in Bridgeport's history. They say the site's location near a rail station and I-95 will help attract thousands of consumers every day.

"Building relationships, community, reduces Bridgeport crime" - CT Mirror

The City of Bridgeport is in the midst of a dramatic reduction in violent crime – the largest drop over the past decade for a city our size in all of New England. And the Police Department is preparing to announce 2014 crime statistics that will reflect yet another significant decrease in crime in our city.
Yet the fact that Bridgeport is now safer than it has been in 40 years is only the beginning of the conversation.
This reduction in violence – and in crime in general – speaks to the continual hard work of the men and women of this police department and our city as a whole. In Bridgeport, we’re taking a multi-pronged approach to cracking down on crime – and it’s working.

"Finch Wins EPA Award in Washington, DC." - News 12

Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Climate Leadership Award for his efforts to promote green jobs and clean energy in the state’s largest city.
The award recognizes groups and individuals who demonstrate innovative leadership in combating climate change. Mayor Finch is the only individual in the country to receive the award this year.
“This is a great honor. In Bridgeport, we’re making smart investments in the future. This includes creating green jobs, investing in clean energy production, and creating transit-oriented developments – all of which will ensure our kids breathe cleaner air,” said Mayor Finch, who also serves as co-chair of the U.S. Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Task Force.

"New Harding high plan gets DEEP approval" - Connecticut Post

Mayor Bill Finch’s plan for a new high school to replace the 90-year-old Harding High School moved one step closer to becoming a reality today as the State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) issued a final decision clearing the plan from GE to clean the site on Boston Avenue that will serve as home of the new state-of-the-art high school.
“In Bridgeport, we are focused on preparing our kids to compete for the jobs of tomorrow. In order to do just that, we’re giving more kids access to high-quality pre-k, and we’re building new schools in order to ensure our kids are learning in the right environment,” said Bridgeport Mayor Finch. “DEEP’s decision allows us to move one step closer to bringing kids in the East Side and East End a new school that will be a high-quality learning environment and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities that they need to thrive. In turn, it will help ensure more Bridgeport kids are prepared for college and competing for 21st century jobs.”
The nearly $80 million new high school will be a 145,000-square-foot, four-story masonry and glass structure. The site includes a football field, baseball field, and eight-lane running track. The school, built for 1,150 students, will include 55 classrooms.
The new high school to replace Harding High School is a part of an aggressive school construction program initiated under the leadership of Mayor Finch. This initiative includes renovating and building schools so that kids can learn in the right environment, and has resulted in the creation of more than 3,000 jobs.  Nearly $730 million has been invested in current, completed and future school construction projects.  Once finished, more than half of Bridgeport kids will be attending new or renovated schools.
