“Prometheus-1” satellite launched into space |
On January 14th, a small piece of CMU Portugal’s DNA was sent into space. The “PROMETHEUS-1” satellite, Portugal’s first PocketQube developed at Universidade do Minho as part of the CMU Portugal project Prometheus, hitched a ride on SpaceX’s Falcon 9 Transporter-12 mission, launched from California, USA.

CMU Portugal celebrates the International Day of Women and Girls in Science |
The CMU Portugal Program joined in global celebrations of the 10th International Day of Women and Girls in Science, on February 11th. Established by UNESCO in 2015, this day highlights the importance of women and girls in scientific fields.
Since its launch in 2006, the Program has been contributing to building a community of female students and faculty members who will continue to break down gender barriers and empower women in science!

| Claire Le Goues Receives Presidential Early Career Award |
CMU Portugal faculty member Claire Le Goues is one of three recipients of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), the highest accolade bestowed by the U.S. government on early career scientists and engineers.

Manuel Reis Carneiro, CMU Portugal Dual Degree Ph.D. student in Electrical and Computer Engineering (Universidade de Coimbra and CMU) was interviewed by the “90 segundos de ciência” (90 seconds of science) Podcast on Antena 1 radio about his research as he developed an eco-friendly water-based conductive ink.

Ying Xu, CMU Portugal Affiliated Ph.D. student in Human-Computer Interaction (Técnico and Interactive Technologies Institute) is the author of the winning poster of the PhD DEI 2024 – Best Poster online voting, titled “Exploring Playful Human-AI Interaction for fostering public understanding of species knowledge”.
