Blue Jay Families,
The start of fall and cooler weather here in Baltimore is a sure sign that midterm season has begun! While students are working hard to prepare for their exams, there are also a number of exciting things happening outside of the classroom, including two of our favorite annual traditions: Family Weekend and Hoptoberfest.
We're looking forward to seeing many of you in person this month. As always, the Office of Family Engagement is available to assist families, so please reach out with any questions to bluejayfamilies@jhu.edu.
Sincerely,
Emily Calderone
Executive Director, Student Transitions and Family Engagement

Family Weekend is just around the corner |
We are in the final stages of preparation for Family Weekend! We're looking forward to seeing our Blue Jay families on campus from October 6–8, 2023. Registration for Family Weekend has closed for many events, but some remain open and many do not require any registration at all.
A few events have been added to the schedule recently, including an On-Campus Living Meet-and-Greet, where attendees will have the opportunity to meet the staff that support students' residential experience, and A FLI Family Affair, a reception for our first-generation, limited-income students and their families. You can review the event schedule on our website to learn more and plan to attend the events that best fit your schedule.
Free parking will be available in both the South and San Martin Garages. The San Martin Garage is closer to the Family Weekend check-in station on the Freshman Quad. Visit our website for directions and a campus map.

Hopkins unveils Ten for One strategic vision plan |
Johns Hopkins University unveiled the final version of its new strategic vision today, a broad and bold reimagination of the university's aspirations, its pursuit of purpose, and its support of people—some of which is already being set in motion.
The Ten for One is a set of 10 strategic goals, shaped by feedback from the members of the Hopkins academic community and our neighbors and partners across Baltimore and beyond, that will guide Johns Hopkins through the university's 150th anniversary in 2026 and to the end of the decade.

Blue Jay Safety Week is Oct. 2–6 |
Student Affairs and Public Safety are proud to present an inaugural program for Homewood undergraduate and graduate students: Secure Your Nest: Blue Jay Safety Week.
October is National Crime Prevention Month, and as many of our new Blue Jays are living away from home for the first time, we want to be able to provide them with resources and guidance to keep themselves and others safe. Safety Week is also a great opportunity for returning students to brush up on their situational awareness and learn tips for staying safe when living off-campus.
Secure Your Nest will take place October 2-6. Students can see the full schedule of events and register in Hopkins Groups.

Hoptoberfest comes to Homewood |
JHU celebrates all things autumnal at Hoptoberfest, scheduled to be held October 11–14 this year. The festival kicks off on The Beach on Wednesday, October 11 with a carnival, face painting, lawn games, contests, free food, and much more. Later that week, there will be a movie screening, a trip to an off-campus haunted house, and an exclusive concert.
All Hoptoberfest events are free for students, and are sponsored by the HOP and the Hopkins Parents Fund. Students can learn more and register for the events in Hopkins Groups.

Since 2020, Johns Hopkins University has required all students, trainees, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, and staff to receive an annual influenza (flu) vaccine. JHU will host a number of vaccine clinics on campus throughout October and November. Full details of the vaccine requirement and clinic dates can be found on the Mandatory Flu Vaccine Policy website.
Parents, please remind your student the deadline to upload proof of receipt of the vaccine to the Vaccine Management System (VMS) this year is Friday, November 17, 2023.
