1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
New International Version (NIV)
Fellowship created a multi-sensory experience in the churches of my childhood.  It looked like diversity, sounded like a dull roar, smelled like fried chicken, tasted like banana pudding and felt like a hug.  The early believers used the word “koinonia” or fellowship to describe sharing all things in common.  Their commonality in Christ caused them to share their whole lives.

Elderly John wrote to believers about the connectivity of our fellowship with God and each other.  If the two great commandments teach us to love God and our neighbors, fellowship creates the laboratory experiment.  When we love God in the right way, we will live in the light, tell the truth and love each other well.

My best memories of church, growing up, looked just like this verse.  They were about light, not darkness.  We shared life together living in the light of truth and love.  When we made mistakes, we held each other accountable and forgave each other.  It sounds simple.  Maybe it was.  But it was so good.  It still is!

 Pray with me:
Father, thank you for our fellowship with you, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.  Make us one as you are one.  Forgive our failures today.  Lead us into the light of your love so that we may live there all day long.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
