Hebrews 1:3-4
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.  So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
New International Version (NIV)
Who has a guardian angel?  From time to time, someone will say to me that one of their friends or relatives is now their guardian angel.  The idea is that the angel is watching over and protecting them from harm or helping them to do something.  I know this is a popular idea, but is it a biblical idea?  Do Christians become angels when we die?  Do we really watch over loved ones?
I have better news.  One greater than the angels is watching over us.  The writer of Hebrews recognized an idolatrous fascination with angels in his day.  As the very radiance of God’s glory, Jesus Christ the Son shines clear light on our lives.  As the exact representation of God’s being, he knows what to do.  Sustainer of all things with his powerful word, he guards and guides us.  As the only One who died for our sins, Jesus purifies us when we fail.  At the right hand of Majesty he has the power to do anything and everything he chooses.  Jesus is greater than the angels!
Without question, God uses angels, but people do not become angels.  Angels are “ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation” (Hebrews 1:14).  But greater still is our Savior Lord and Jesus who ever lives to intercede for us.  No one knows what his servants need more than Jesus.  No one wants better things for us than God.  No one else possesses the power to provide and protect like Jesus.  We have Jesus.  He is more than enough!
Pray with me:
Father, we thank you for your perfect Son, Jesus.  Remind us again that Christ alone is sufficient for every need in our lives.  We would not put any being or person in your place.  Thank you that you not only care for our loved ones who have gone before, but you are taking care of all of us all the time.  Help us to trust your perfect provision.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
