The McGinnis Venture Competition, a platform exclusively for Carnegie Mellon University's community of student entrepreneurs, brings together Carnegie Mellon's best and brightest student entrepreneurs to compete for $60K in investments. All participants receive crucial interaction with alumni entrepreneurs and venture capitalists, an opportunity to raise capital and valuable feedback about ventures.
This multi-round competition begins with two virtual rounds and will culminate in a virtual, final live round at Carnegie Mellon University on Tuesday, March 23, 2021.
The deadline to apply for Round 1 is Wednesday, January 20, 2021!

CMU Startups Among NEXT Pittsburgh's Fifteen Tech Companies to Watch in 2021
Even in a difficult year like 2020, Pittsburgh tech companies continued to make moves, make deals and make new products—and the world is buying. NEXT Pittsburgh has selected its picks for the top tech companies to watch in 2021. On the list are several CMU startups such as Digital Dream Labs, a maker of educational video games (teaching coding, math, art, and chemistry). Others include: RE2 Robotics, Astrobotic, IAM Robotics, Aurora, Duolingo, Near Earth Autonomy, CleanRobotics, Argo AI, Idelic, Maven Machines and LegalSifter. Read more.

| Apply to the NSF I-Corps Site Program
The Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship is currently recruiting teams for its Spring 2021 NSF Innovation Corps (I-Corps) customer discovery training program. CMU faculty, staff, students and recent alumni are eligible to apply. Teams can be reimbursed up to $2,500 for eligible customer discovery expenses to assess the commercialization potential for their STEM technology. Further details on the I-Corps program and eligibility can be found on our website. There have been 180 teams in the program since fall 2014 and they have received more than $65 million in additional funding for their ideas.

The CSL Project Course Apply by Friday, January 15
The CSL Project Course is a 12-unit semester-long course that pairs student teams with corporate partners. It meets virtually on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 - 9:30pm EST. This year's sponsors are Bosch, Giant Eagle, Optum (part of UnitedHealthCare), Microsoft, MSA Safety and numo (PNC's fintech accelerator). Each sponsor has a new product or service they are looking to explore with a student team.
CSL Fellows Apply by Wednesday, January 20
The CSL Fellows is a program within the Corporate Startup Lab that allows CMU graduate students the opportunity to spend ten hours per week working with corporate partners as almost "corporate venture associates". This year, students will work with numo (part of PNC) and Optum. Each student will be given a $4K stipend for their work over the semester.
