John 4:21-23
“Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.  You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.  Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks."
New International Version (NIV)
Spiritual conversations happen.  They often come unanticipated and unsolicited.  Somebody says something about God and before we know it we are in a dialogue.  Are we ready?

Jesus went to the well because he was thirsty.  We may want to spiritualize this in some way.  Resist!  Jesus was fully human.  Humans get thirsty.  Jacob’s water had been satisfying human thirst for a long time.

The Samaritan woman also went to the well because she was thirsty.  She was more thirsty than perhaps she knew.  In relationships she had sought fulfillment and found none.  When Jesus asked her for water, a conversation ensued.  What about worship?  “Where should we do it,” she wondered aloud.  Jesus explained that how we worship is more important than where.

Worship is in spirit.  It has more to do with the location of our hearts than the location of our bodies or our buildings.  If our spirits do not connect with the Holy Spirit, we have not worshiped.  Also, we need to know the God whom we worship.  Otherwise we are simply going through the motions.  No wonder the woman left her water jar.  Her thirst had finally been quenched.  Has yours?

 Pray with me:
Holy Father, worthy of all power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory and praise, we worship you today in spirit and in truth.  Receive your worth, your worthship, your worship from us we pray.  Satisfy the longings of our hearts.  Bread of heaven, Fountain of life, fill us until we want no more.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
