Psalm 139:23-24
Search me, God, and know my heart;
    test me and know my anxious thoughts.
 See if there is any offensive way in me,
    and lead me in the way everlasting.
New International Version (NIV)
               I watched the screen as my bag went through the airport.  Immediately I knew my shaving cream container was too large.  Brand new.  In the trash.  Lesson learned, I hope.  Isn’t it amazing that they can see right through our bags?
              Have you ever had an MRI?  A closed MRI machine will reveal once and for all whether we are claustrophobic.  With MRI’s and CAT Scans technicians and physicians can see inside us.  Remember David began this Psalm with a declaration:  “You have searched me Lord and you know me.”
              In the end he turns the declaration into an invitation.  “Search me God.”   Wait, did we miss a few verses?  If we read Psalm 139 consecutively we find that David asks God to slay the wicked.  He absolves himself from the bloodthirsty adversaries of God who misuse God’s name.  In holy fervor he declares his hatred for those who hate God and abhorrence for the rebellious.
              Still David knows his own susceptibility to failure.  After confessing his zeal, he brings it into the presence of God.  He asks God to reveal not only his actions but his thoughts and motives.  God knows everything about us, including our anxiety.  Do we dare ask God to search our hearts for anything offensive?  Do we dare not ask?  Our only chance to end up on the right path is to follow the Leader.  He will not lead us astray.
Pray with me:
Father, as you have searched us before, search us now and reveal to us the truth about ourselves.  Show us your way and teach us to follow.  Help us to align our lives completely with you today.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses.  You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones or via this link  http://fighterverses.com/the-verses/fighter-verses/As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
Joyfully,
