Welcome to Papertrey Ink's August newsletter! This month we're Revisiting Teach & Inspire (just in time for back-to-school crafting) and getting our creative juices primed for Stamp-A-Faire (mark your calendars for August 29th). There is a fresh batch of Signature Sketches and a new Color Play combo included here to get you inspired until the big day. But before we get to all of that, we have a little announcement...
A Fond Farewell From Nichole...
Goodbyes are never easy and this one is especially difficult! Our beloved Laura Bassen will be stepping down from her position on our design team. She has been an amazing contributor for years and it is hard to imagine a release that won't include her beautifully bright and colorful designs. Laura is streamlining her career to make more time for her beautiful family, and I have nothing but the upmost respect for a mama that has such worthwhile priorities! We will be seeing Laura one more time during Stamp-a-faire in a few weeks, where she will have a video challenge to share with all of you!

Lizzie Jones will be stepping into Laura's position on the team. Her designs have certainly been piquing everyone's interest the last few months and we are looking forward to seeing what she creates within this new expanded set of responsibilities each month!

Of course, we're all going to miss Laura, but we know she wouldn't want you to be sad for very long; it's just not in her nature! So put a smile on your face, pour yourself a refreshing lemonade, and dive right in to this month's Papertrey Ink News!

For July's Blog Hop Nichole shared a vintage-style photo featuring jewel tone paper butterflies hanging on a beautifully distressed wall. Niki was particularly influenced by the color scheme in the inspiration photo, with her neutral background and scarlet butterflies. The gracefully handwritten sentiment she added from Signature Greetings is the perfect compliment to her fluttering, gilded friends. Laura Jane created a flash and flitter of colored wings across her card front using images from Beautiful Butterflies and Beautiful Butterflies Layers. She used their vibrant wings to camoflage her die cut sentiment. So well done! Monika chose to use a single, large Life Is Beautiful butterfly as the focus of her card. The glittered cardstock she used is such an elegant contrast to the neutral watercolored wash on her background. Gorgeous work, everyone! Thank you all so much for participating this month!

We've seen some very exciting Make It Monday tutorials over the past month. Laura encouraged us to add color to our Cover Plates for amazing results, Laurie created custom borders using images of all sorts, Lexi showed us how to use dies to create temporary masks for watercolor, and Lizzie gave us tips on kissing solid stamps with background patterns for added texture. Anna, Luanne, Keri, and Rema played along this month's weekly challenges. Thank you so much for sharing your creativity, Ladies!

Corners have been getting a lot of attention lately. It seems like we stampers are tucking our focal points neatly into card corners quite a bit these days. And who could blame us, with tools like the Sentiment Splits Die Collection and the Make It Market Mini: Garden Guild Kit making the corners such an appealing place for a spotlight. Of course, it can also be just as simple as concentrating your design in one area, too. It truly couldn't be easier to be in vogue! Have you been highlighting your corners lately?

This month's On Trend pin board is full of fully embellished corners to get you motivated to try this trend for yourself. Go on over and give it a peek!
Some of our favorite ladies have been sharing a little extra on their blogs over the past few weeks. Danielle paired Quilted: Summer and Scripted to create a set of bright and cheerful patchwork cards that would surely brighten anyone's day. Amy pulled out her Bibliophile stamps and dies along with the Fancy Teacup Die to create this lovely vignette perfect for any reader. Laurie used the Shaker Shapes: Balloon Die and the Good Times stamps and die for this festive birthday greeting. Wouldn't you love to recieve a birthday card like that? Thank you, ladies, for sharing your creativity with the rest of us!

One of the fabulous things about tag dies is their versatility, and the Tag Sale #11 die is no exception! This luggage tag-inspired tag includes solid, frame, and strap dies that work together to create a realistic final result packed with charming details. Laura paired this die with the Get Lost stamp set to create Bon Voyage gift tags perfect for your favorite jet setter. Don't go thinking that the uses for this tag stop there though! Dawn showed the adaptability of this tag design by using it to create a shaker element with Pack Your Bags on her "missing you" card. Betsy's ingenious mini book plays up the luggage tag design by using the Tag Sale #11 die and These United States to document vacation memories. Have you pulled out your Tag Sale #11 die lately? What clever uses can you find for this die?

This month's Color Play inspiration comes from the Sally's Baking Adddiction blog. This gorgeous arrangement incorporates both stunning blooms and perky little succulents for a bouquet that is as playful as it is elegant. The Hibiscus Burst, Orange Zest, Summer Sunrise, New Leaf, and Aqua Mist color palette is a perfectly cheerful combination for these waning days of summer. Check out Lizzie's blog post to see how she's playing with this month's colors!
You can keep up with the monthly combos on our Color Play Pinterest board. We add a fresh inspiration photo and color scheme on the first of every month!
