Constitution Day: Gerrymandering – Origins, Practice & Legality, Today |
Today, Wednesday, Sept. 17, the campus community is invited to celebrate Constitution Day with a no-cost educational event. Dr. Carl Taylor, Associate Professor of Government and Foreign Affairs, will lead a session titled “Gerrymandering: Origins, Practice, & Legality” from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Renacci Center, offering timely insight into an issue that continues to shape our democracy.

Walsh University Expands Educational Access for First Responders and Their Families
|
As part of its commitment to serving those who serve our citizens, Walsh University is proud to launch the First Responders: Service to Scholars Program. Through this initiative, all first responders and their dependents who are accepted for admission on or after September 11, 2025, are eligible for a 15% tuition discount on nearly all of Walsh University’s academic programs. First responders—including law enforcement officers, EMTs, paramedics, volunteer and active-duty firefighters, search and rescue members, dispatchers, and veterans—make tremendous sacrifices in support of their communities. Community Freedom Summit and Freedom Walk, Saturday |
|
|
Walsh University is hosting the 7th Annual Community Freedom Summit on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Cecchini Center Arena. This free event brings the community together to raise awareness and take action against human trafficking, featuring keynote speaker Dr. Tony Talbott, a nationally recognized anti-trafficking advocate. The morning includes a Red Sand Project demonstration, Freedom Educators raising awareness along East Maple Street, and a community resource marketplace. Come early for music by DJ Nikolina, coffee from Forty One Coffee Truck, and to shop exclusive Not For Sale merchandise. At the conclusion, take part in a one-mile silent Freedom Walk.

Ignite: Hear Coach Tim Mead’s Testimony, Tonight |
Join Campus Ministry tonight at 8 p.m. for Ignite, featuring Coach Tim Mead, Walsh University’s long-serving head baseball coach. With over 40 years of experience, Coach Mead has guided students and athletes through character-building, community service, and spiritual growth. His faith journey began as a Walsh student in the 1970s, and tonight he will share his personal testimony of faith and perseverance, reflecting on the mentors, gratitude, and values that have shaped his life and coaching. The evening will include praise and worship, the sacrament of Reconciliation with Father, and a social afterward. Bring a friend or teammate!

Excitement is building for this year’s Maroon & Gold Weekend, kicking off Thursday, Sept. 25, with Cavalier athletics and the Maroon & Gold Court announcement. From there, the celebration continues with a full line-up for everyone to enjoy rugby and football games, the family-friendly Parent/Family BBQ, a nostalgic “Rewind to the Past” After Hours event, movie under the stars, cornhole and pickleball tournaments, the Outstanding Alumni Awards Dinner, Wall of Fame Breakfast, and the unforgettable 5th Quarter Celebration. Walsh Community United for 22 Push-Ups to Honor Veterans |
|
|
Hundreds of students, faculty, and staff gathered on the West Lawn Sept. 12 for 22 Push-Ups for Veteran Suicide Awareness. Led by U.S. Marine Corps Veteran and Walsh alum Joshua Ruiz ’21, the event featured service members, special guests, and a campus-wide show of red, white, and blue in support of veterans.

Students Gathered in Prayer for Charlie Kirk and Family |
Dozens of students attended the prayer gathering hosted by Walsh University’s Turning Point USA chapter on Monday, Sept. 15. Held in the Prayer Garden between the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Chapel and Timken, the event brought students together in a moment of prayer for Charlie Kirk and his family, offering a time of unity and reflection.

Dr. Jennifer Clevinger, Professor of Biology, was invited to speak on her research at the Department of Environmental and Plant Sciences Colloquium series at Ohio University in Athens on Sept. 12. Her presentation was entitled "Research at a Small Liberal Arts College: Systematics of Silphium (Asteraceae), Prairie Restoration, and Invasive Species Monitoring. The Walsh University Women’s Committee hosted its annual Boot Scootin’ BBQ fundraiser on Sept. 5, in support of Walsh University students. This year’s event led by Pat Seanor, Ann Bradway and Judy Fisher featured dinner by Old Carolina Barbecue, country music, and line dancing. Guests bid on one-of-a-kind auction items, baskets, and gift certificates and participated in a 50/50 raffle drawing. Our guests enjoyed a fun night while supporting a great cause!

Last week, the PSYC201 Principles of Learning class met on the rugby pitch behind the tennis courts to watch frisbee dogs from the Akron chapter of the Worldwide K9 Frisbee League. Students observed how the dogs learned and responded to cues, seeing principles of conditioning and reinforcement in action.
