Fruita boundaries discussed
In preparation for the opening of Monument Ridge Elementary School this fall, D51 hosted four community meetings to gather public input on Fruita area elementary school boundaries. School Board members plan to adopt boundaries in March. 
School of Choice starts March 9
The School of Choice application window for 2020-21 opens online at 10 a.m. March 9 at this link. School of Choice gives parents the option of applying for a school that is not in their home attendance boundaries. Learn more here.
Science Fairs this week
Students in grades 3-5 participated in a science fair today at Eureka! Math & Science Center. Check out more exhibits tomorrow at CMU's Confluence Hall, where middle and high school students will have their fair from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.!
CADA honors Dr. Sirko
Congratulations to Superintendent Diana Sirko, recently named Outstanding School Administrator by the Colorado Athletics Directors Association! She will be recognized at a banquet in April.
Preschool Open Houses
Does your student have a younger sibling who's ready for preschool? Check out a D51 Preschool Open House between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. on March 5. Information about eligibility can be found here, and a list of sites is available here
Kindness is Contagious Week
District 51 students celebrated Kindness is Contagious Week Feb. 10-15 with multiple events, including classroom visits, free ice skating, and writing messages of kindness (with permission) on the windows of Mesa County Sheriff's Office vehicles - check out the video above!
Lincoln OM students help dedicate new fire engine
Lincoln Orchard Mesa third-graders helped their neighbors at Fire Station 4 welcome the newest fire fighting apparatus last Friday. Students wiped the new engine clean after it received a washing from the engine it is replacing - a tradition dating back to the 19th century. Check out a video of the dedication here.
Scholastica Tournament
D51 middle school students in Gifted & Talented programming flexed their mental muscles during the annual Middle School Scholastica Tournament on Feb. 11! Students competed in three rounds of brain games at Bookcliff Activity Center.
MGMS students talk about building positive school culture
Students from R-5 High School are spending three Tuesdays this month talking with students at Mt. Garfield Middle School about restorative practices, social relationships, and building a positive school culture. Both schools hope to continue this work next school year with student facilitators.
FMHS Ribbon Cutting
Fruita Monument's new entrance and commons renovation made its public debut at a ribbon cutting and an open house on Jan. 22. Check out the ribbon cutting in the video above and learn more here.

Four local students headed to state Spelling Bee March 14
Of the 50 middle school students who participated in the local Spelling Bee on Feb. 1, four are headed to the Colorado State Spelling Bee on March 14 in Denver. They are: Devron Skinner (Caprock Academy), Austin Strain (Fruita 8/9), Sarah Hoffman (Grand Mesa Middle School), and Emery Graziano (Fruita Middle School).

Phases 1 & 2 of 2017 Bond Measure maintenance complete, Phase 3 to begin this summer
D51 will enter its third and final phase of maintenance projects funded by the 2017 Bond Measure this year. Phase 3 will include maintenance at Appleton, Broadway, Career Center, Chatfield, Dos Rios, Fruita 8/9, Fruita Middle, Fruita Monument, Gateway, Grand Junction High, Grand River Academy, Mesa View, New Emerson, Nisley, Pear Park, Pomona, R-5/Summit, Redlands, Rim Rock, Thunder Mt., and Tope.

Congratulations, Students of the Quarter!
Each quarter of the school year, two eighth-grade students from each D51 middle school and two seniors from each D51 high school (plus alternative and charter programs, on a rotating basis), are honored at a luncheon hosted by Alpine Bank and Colorado Mesa University. Honorees for the third quarter of the school year are listed here.
