If you are like me, you enjoy having a great cup of coffee in your free time. Coffee is perfect when you need to do homework, read something special, or just relax after a busy day. I am always looking for new places where I can find not only good coffee but also a friendly and comfortable atmosphere. Recently, I discovered a wonderful spot that I want to share with you, and the best part. It’s right here on campus.
Every day, I walked past St. John Paul II Church without noticing that behind it was an amazing coffee shop with a nice backyard and a spacious interior. The place is called Cor Coffee, and its name comes from the word heart. The café has a rustic style, a small workspace, and an inviting environment that makes you feel at home.
Cor Coffee is located at 700 S. Morgan St (right across from Behavior Science Building). and is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. They close briefly from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m., so keep that in mind if you plan to visit. The menu is quite varied, offering a selection of delicious coffee drinks, non-coffee beverages, and even tea. Prices are very affordable, which makes it a great option for students. They also offer a subscriber card: when you buy nine drinks, the tenth is free. Each time you purchase a beverage, they stamp it with a little heart, which makes it special and fun.
The taste of their coffee is excellent because they use beans roasted by Groundwell, a local roaster founded by a University of Illinois Chicago student. I ordered a cappuccino, and it was simply wonderful. If you are a coffee lover, this place is definitely worth a visit!

Why UIC Student Always Sit on the Red Chair |
By Ping-Hsuan Chan and Qingyu Wu
|
There are a lot of red chairs on the campus everywhere. Have you ever seen someone sitting in one? The chairs are really comfortable when you sit here in the afternoon. When there is sunshine, you can get warm, do homework, or read a book sitting in one of the red chairs. We interviewed some students in our class but they said they have never sat in the red chair before. They said it’s too busy and there is no time to sit in one. However, some students or teachers sit in the chairs to work on an assignment or project. While others just sit there and enjoy the sunshine and the wind. In fact, the UIC red chairs are called the Adirondack chairs, the red feature is the UIC iconic color. In addition, the red chairs are like an invitation for people to come and enjoy the outdoors and get fresh air. Not to mention, the picture of students sitting in the chairs makes for great scenery. According to the assistant director of campus architecture Jonathan Fair, “The button logo is the core of the UIC brand and It’s the first of hopefully many that we will be putting on campus, it’s a nice way for UIC establish its perimeter and be a point of pride to have that instagram moment or that graduation moment.” In conclusion, the red chair has become a part of UIC’s brand promoting community and reminding students to sit, ponder and remember.

How to Improve Reading Comprehension |
|
|
If you have a difficult time reading in English, you’re not alone. Reading comprehension is a skill that requires lots of time and effort. Here are a few tips to help you read and understand with ease.
|
-
Find books you like. Practice makes perfect. And it’s easier to practice when you enjoy what you are doing!
- Read out loud. Reading out loud will help you to understand what you are reading.
- Skim the headings of the text. Skimming the headings will let you know the main points of the text. This makes it easier to follow.
- Re-read sections that are confusing. Go back and read it again until you understand.
- Write down words you don't know. Look them up in a dictionary later, then try to use them in a sentence.
- Discuss what you read with a friend, classmate or teacher. Summarizing what you read in your own words will help you relate to the text and reinforce your understanding.

What is a Community College? |
|
|
Community colleges (two-year colleges) can be a good place to start as an undergraduate student in the U.S. This is because, usually, you can attend a community college for the first two years of an undergraduate degree and then transfer to your preferred university for the final two years of your degree. To learn more about a community college and why people choose to attend, read more>>.
