LATINX & BRCA Launches in the Los Angeles Times

The Basser Center is excited to partner with women’s health advocate and BRCA mutation carrier Alejandra Campoverdi on LATINX & BRCA, a comprehensive initiative to raise awareness, provide education, and build community for the U.S. Latinx community around BRCA-related cancers. Ms. Campoverdi was recently featured in a powerful piece in the LA Times, where she shared her experience undergoing a preventative double mastectomy.

5th Annual Breakthroughs and Discoveries Panel

The Basser Center's 2019 Breakthroughs and Discoveries Panel brought together leading experts in genetics research and hereditary cancer to discuss the latest in BRCA-related clinical research and patient care. Moderated by Basser Executive Director Susan Domchek, MD, the panel included Gareth Evans, MD, FCRP; Ranjit Manchanda, MD, MRCOG, PhD; and Katherine L. Nathanson, MD.
The panel was held during the Annual Basser Center Scientific Symposium, "BRCA1, BRCA2 and Beyond: An Update on Hereditary Cancer," which presents cutting-edge data from renowned BRCA1/2 researchers. Maria Jasin, PhD, of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center received the Basser Global Prize and presented the keynote address.

BRCA The Next Frontier: Testing, Prevention, Ethics and Law


The Basser Center and Central Synagogue presented a panel discussion on current topics related to BRCA mutations and hereditary cancers. Moderator Jill Werman Harris led a panel including Dr. Susan Domchek, Basser Center Executive Director; Dr. Kenneth Offit, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Medical Oncologist; Dr. Nicole Schreiber-Agus, Community Genetics Educator; and Erika Stallings, Attorney, BRCA carrier and patient advocate. Topics included recent research updates, insurance and discrimination issues, genetic testing, fertility, and more.

Bebashi's Our Bodies Presents: BreastFest 2019

A core part of the Basser Center mission is to increase awareness of hereditary cancer in at-risk populations. Dr. Susan Domchek was proud to participate in a panel discussion at Bebashi’s annual BreastFest, a celebration to raise breast cancer awareness and provide resources for women of color in the Greater Philadelphia community. Dr. Domchek also received Bebashi's 2018 John Allen Blue Award.

Young Leadership Council Event

The Basser Center's Young Leadership Council hosted a happy hour fundraiser at SideBAR in NYC on Thursday, May 16. More than 50 attendees raised nearly $2,000 to support young investigators and clinical fellows at the Basser Center. Thanks to all who attended and to the businesses who contributed to the event raffle.
