VLS Community,
It is my pleasure to share that Chris Guthrie has been reappointed as dean of Vanderbilt Law School, effective July 1, 2024.
I am honored to continue working with Dean Guthrie, who has so ably guided the law school for the past 15 years. Vanderbilt Law School has accomplished a lot during his tenure, growing in important areas like academic programming and clinical education, launching innovative degree programs, and addressing the challenges and opportunities of the legal profession. Despite economic downturns, a pandemic, and floods, we find ourselves in a position of strength, eager and ready to embrace the future with the rigorous approach and collaborative spirit that distinguishes us as a law school.
Our success is inextricably linked to your support, which has grown substantially over the last decade and a half. We have nearly quadrupled the book value of our endowment, more than tripled the number of endowed faculty chairs, and nearly tripled the number of endowed scholarships for students, to say nothing of the support for and creation of academic programs, clinics, and initiatives that bolster our faculty’s research capabilities and our students’ education. I am humbled and incredibly grateful for your continuing dedication to our school.
The next 5 years will find us enjoying more success and navigating challenges large and small. I can think of no one better to lead Vanderbilt Law School into the future, and I hope you will join me in celebrating this great news and congratulating Chris on his reappointment.
Sincerely,
Clay Cline
Assistant Dean, Development & Alumni Relations
