Writing is an act of liberation that connects individuals to communities. It strengthens social justice through restorative reflection, vulnerability, and grace. Faculty, students, and staff focused on significant social work writing projects—such as articles, books, dissertations, theses, capstone papers, or other scholarly work—promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion for historically marginalized communities. These retreats, Writing Is Freedom 8/20/24 and Easton's Nook 8/30/24) are a collaboration between the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Office of Faculty Affairs, the DSW Program, and the PhD Program.

Reflection - "Spaces like this are sometimes a student's only version of self care. We often have a lot of competing obligations and it is a privilege that Silver has outlined the space for care for those of us who cannot secure it for ourselves."

Reflection - "This was a fun event where I got to meet other Silver students as well as DEI program staff. I got to chat with and hear perspectives from a small group of others in the program in a low-pressure and fun setting! Cute with plants and decorating and snacks. An intentional space I appreciated."
