$1 billion in new infrastructure funding
The federal and provincial governments announced a combined $1 billion investment through a new Canada–Ontario Partnership to Build funding stream. The program will support municipalities that do not levy development charges, often rural, small and northern communities, with funding available for both growth-related housing infrastructure and asset renewal.
$500 million for community sport and recreation
Applications are now open for the next round of Ontario’s Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund, following an announcement from Premier Doug Ford.
Municipal accountability regulations
The province launched consultations on proposed regulations related to municipal codes of conduct, Integrity Commissioner processes, and education and training requirements.
Housing and homelessness remain urgent priorities
Conference sessions highlighted the growing pressures municipalities face around housing affordability, homelessness and supportive housing, and the need for stronger partnerships across governments and sectors.
Protecting local democracy
Delegates also explored the importance of transparent, accountable local decision-making and ensuring communities continue to have a meaningful voice in the decisions that affect them.
A new AMO Board
AMO members elected Ottawa Councillor Riley Brockington as the association’s new President for the 2026–2028 term and welcomed a new Board of Directors.
A step forward on reconciliation
AMO and the Anishinabek Nation signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a framework to identify shared priorities, exchange perspectives and work together to advance common goals through advocacy and sector leadership.
Celebrating municipal innovation
Congratulations to the 2026 Peter J. Marshall Municipal Innovation Award winners: the City of Brampton, Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Town of Minto and Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Thank you to everyone who helped make AMO 2026 a success. The conference demonstrated once again the value of municipalities coming together to share ideas, learn from one another and advocate with one collective voice.
