Deuteronomy 10:12-13
And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?
New International Version (NIV)
When Billy Graham told Woody Allen that God is good, Woody quipped, “When I look in the mirror that is hard for me to believe.”  They then went on to talk about God’s standard for relationships.  Billy held up the Biblical standard which the church has affirmed for 2000 years, intimacy is a gift reserved for a man and woman in a marriage.   Woody argued for the possibility of premarital intimacy, but Graham stayed with the scriptures in his response.

Millennia before, Moses reminded the Israelites that God asks his people to fear him, walk in his ways, love him and worship him with whole hearts and souls.  God gave the law to his people for “their own good.”  In other words, God is not a cosmic kill-joy trying to keep people from enjoying life.  Apart from him there is no joy.

Our God is not capricious.  Instead he seeks our good every time.  In fact he is working all things together for good to make us like his Son, Jesus.  Do not doubt the goodness of God.  Life is not always good but God is.  When we walk with him he will guide our steps for our good so that we may do the good things he has prepared for us to do.  Trust his goodness today!
Pray with me:
Father, you alone are good all the time.  We, on the other hand, are good some of the time.  So we thank you for your wonderful kindness and goodness to your people.  Help your people to return to the truth of your word.  When we doubt you, always help us to doubt our doubts as well.  Thank you for showing us the way to love.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
