Luke 11:1-2
One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”  He said to them, “When you pray, say:
“‘Father,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come.

New International Version (NIV)
Who taught you to pray?  My mom and my Pastor Jim Hallcom taught me about prayer, along with my Sunday School teachers, the Coxwells.   If you wanted to learn more about prayer, whom would you ask?

Jesus’ disciples saw prayer as a persistent pattern in his life.  Something about his prayer told them he was an expert.  They could have decided they could never pray as he did.  Instead, they asked him to teach them.

What was unique about Jesus’ prayer in his day?  He called God his Father and he told his disciples they could do the same.  We ask our parents for things that we would never dare mention to a stranger.  God our Father has given us life.  We need not fear asking him for what we need.  God is more willing to give to us than we are to ask.  So . . . ask!

 Pray with me:
Father, we do not pray today to change your mind or twist your arm.  But we would love to lay hold of your willingness today.  Thank you for giving good gifts to your children.  We ask you to give us all we need.  You are a good, good Father.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
